Yvonne and Catherine are at DBSG. Board is discussing the priorities model. They are trying to create a
new budget/ friendly process. What is the portion we can spend? There is to be no deficit spending. We
get paid for students. LPC gets an amount and so do we. Since District doesn’t supply students they get
paid from the colleges and it will have to reflect what we can pay before it hurts our students. Lottery
money is part of it. Only Lorenzo currently knows how much the Lottery money is. Each discipline has
lottery money.
Minutes approval from October
Approval – yes vote is 14 - no vote is 0 - with no abstentions
President’s report
Look at our charter. How can we change it or update it. Yvonne submitted a report. ATTACH
Were the changes approved? Vote is 14 yes, 0 no, with no abstentions
A suggestion was made to create wiki’s for documents or the zone. This would allow people to see
changes made by others in real time.
Discussing 2013-14 schedule, w/ 2ftf reassign time. Brought up by faculty in prbc but probably off the
table. Dbsg hired Mike Hill to lead the process. Has done this with multiple college districts so… how do
we fund the district and keep it far to everyone. ?
SEIU- Gregory Correa
SEIU 1021 and the District will be working on a health reimbursement plan. More information will be
coming in the near future.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Academic policy – Edna Danaher is our representative.
Students –no report
Basic skills – restructuring the learning center. STE<
Treasurer – No report this month
College council : Gordon reported there was a meeting last Wednesday. They are trying to streamline
PBRC shared governance structure at Chabot and District. Incorporate college council and PRBC into
one committee. Sue has come to the conclusion that they still work with different functions so it is best
to keep them separate for the current time. College Council will meet once a month. This group
consists of Administration and heads of committees. They will continue to meet.
Committee on Online learning (COOL) – K. Metcalf
The Cool members who were present voted to approve the following Online Hybrid Proposals: S. Tong.
Sociology 5 Online, and B.Cirera, Nutrition 1 Hybrid
The Cool members who were present including all of Review Team 1 discussed Bus 14 Online. The
review team expressed concerns regarding the relationship of the listed contact hours and description
of the instructional methods in reference to the specific learning outcomes listed in the Curriculum
Course Outline. They also discussed the fact that it was a lab course and how they would be
administered. Review Team 1 decided in agreement with the COOL members present to reevaluate the
proposal. And, the chair is currently investigating past Bus 14 proposals and how they were delivered.
The next COOL meeting scheduled for Tuesday 11/20 will address the items that the committee did not
address at this meeting: Online Counseling. Blackboard updates, Listing Hardware/Computer needs in
the Chabot Catalog.
Next COOL meeting is on Tuesday November 20th, at noon in room 1506
District budget study group – new allocation model and 13-14 budget we will see when we get feedback
from YVONNE. Mike is outside and doesn’t have a vested interest.
Facilities - Nate
2500 is back in service. Looking a lot better. New equipment. Not 4000
2800 is still working. 2900 wrestling is moved and it is still getting worked on [Fire systems problem are
being worked on and tied into main system. Bear with us. 1200 moving right along. 1800 is moving
today. Furniture got delivered today unexpectedly. IT is supposed to mount monitors. Monitors are
not here yet. And will have to come back now. A proposed 12 foot fence at Parking lot B 12 along farm
back and green Fry barn. Status on elevator in 400? Piping under elevator needs to be re-piped. Long
process because they will have to go through the floor. Vendor needs to submit a proposal. ECD has a
room that could be used by Instructors and students w/ disabilities in the meantime for those who can’t
use the stairs. PE faculty should be able to move in to 2600 in December.
Health and Safety -Nate
Jay walking issue. Police set up sting and gave several $85 tickets. Hayward police received the video
by Sujoy. Bike patrol was out and gave several tickets. Asian student was hit and received multiple head
and neck injuries. Was sent to hospital and has no insurance. Be careful driving and don’t jaywalk
because you will probably get a ticket.
Staff Development.
Future Flex days at Chabot in February. Classified has Linda Entrikin (the computer trainer) in their
address book. It was noted that she gave a great training. Nate gave a training on verbal defense
techniques. Four people showed up to verbal defense class. Hopefully there will be another one
offered in February.
Tech Committee –Chasity.
Why Novell? A different system is being considered. Faculty are in domain. Ultimately everyone will be
in a domain that talks to each other but that is a long way down the road. How can LPC, Chabot and the
District talk to each other and still keep their uniqueness? Why do we have zone? No money being
spent on it. Its part of banner. Maybe change it up so people will use it more. Convergence of a
website. We will migrate everything over but we won’t see it until it becomes life. It’s scripted in cold
fusion. We won’t see any change, just people who make changes to websites beyond text. It will be
easier and safer. Everyone will be notified ahead of time. Beginning of December is when we will be
testing. And it will be tested before we make it go live. It should go smooth because we are making
very little visual change. There will be some trainings and they will return.
Book store advisory- Chasity
30 classes were on hold before the voting of Prop 30 so the bookstore did not stock those books.
Best price comparison - would it cost less if the books were part of the course fee? Peter Nilsson Is the
Bookstore person and would be the one to ask about pricing options. Staff and faculty get a discount at
the bookstore. Show staff ID to receive discount. Discount is for anything not on sale (and some sale as
well with yellow ticket items.)
Possible speakers coming to future Senate meetings? Matthew K (counseling) is slated for Jan. or Feb.
Carlson Award
Do we want to pull the money out? There are issues with the district. The money is currently there
since the Foundation went away. What is the interest that money is earning and why can’t we use that
for the Carlson Award? Our President, Susan Sperling has been working to reinstitute the Chabot
College Foundation. They have been speaking with Heidi Fienberg. The recommendation is “don’t do
anything yet.” It must be structured in the right way so that we are legal.
Cheryl moved that the meeting be adjourned at 1:55 and Christie seconded. All said aye.
