Mireille Giovanola, Hilal Ozdemir, Harjot Sawhney, Clayton Thiel, Kent Uchiyama.

(Humanities), Wayne Pitcher (Science & Math; Curriculum chair)
Meeting called to order at 12:05 pm
Mireille distributed the agenda and Dr. Thompson’s 5/27/14 memo to everybody.
Everybody introduced themselves.
Membership Update: Health and PE: Ken will talk to his department to bring more
representation. Mireille will contact Tom Clark to get a name of a faculty who will represent
Applied Technology since Stephen Small cannot come due to class conflict. Felicia Tripp will
represent Counseling. Other divisions also have good representation.
The committee will review and approve the 8/19/14 minutes during the meeting on 9/16/14.
Wayne Pitcher (Curriculum chair) is in attendance: Since we will have both an SLO and a
Curriculum module of Curricunet, it is good to have curriculum’s representation on SLOAC.
The due date of Program Review is Oct 24th (It was declared at PRBC meeting last month). The
forms for Program Review and SLOs will be the same as the prior year.
Trish: We should hold data, resend the memo, and specify the date when we stop recording
SLO’s in eLumen.
Rob: No data will roll over in September.
Mireille: The contract with eLumen is set to end at the end of October.
Rob: Send out the message: what date you definitely do NOT want to enter additional data into
eLumen.
Mireille: The contact person for eLumen problems is Liem Huynh (district).
Remind everybody that we all should have 2 PLO’s and the correct number of CLO’s assessed
at the end of Fall semester. We all should have completed Closing the Loop forms in Spring 15.
Rob: the old data entered in eLumen will be transferred to Curricunet. Make a copy of your
eLumen data.
Felicia: If people do not understand Stacy’s memo, they should contact their SLOAC liaison.
Trish: Adjunct Faculty have to be paid for their assessment work on SLO. Union has told them
they do not have to do it.
Stacy: FT Faculty should talk to PT Faculty about the importance of assessing SLO’s
Rob: Alternatively, FT faculty can go to PT faculty’s class and do the survey. The results are
down to the course level and not to the instructor level.
Hilal: PT faculty need to be trained. Alternatively, FT faculty can get aggregate data. FT
faculty can close the loop for PT faculty.
Kent: College Policy is that if FT faculty can assess at least 50% of the courses, PT faculty does
not need to assess SLO’s. But it is imperative that we talk to PT faculty. We want their input on
student learning. In that case, they should be paid for their work.
Stacy: We need to make sure the FT faculty do their work.
Mireille: There was an MOU that was put in place during the previous cycle. PT faculty should
be paid for at least 1 1/2 hours at the F rate. The request must go through the division deans.
This is in case at least FT faculty does not assess 50% of the courses. The memo needs to be
revised. Membership needs to be updated. Shared Governess document needs to be
updated. GE SLO’s should be assessed. It will be the part of a FIG. What are the GE areas?
Felicia: AA and AS degrees have GE courses. These are based on CSU and UC
requirements. Most areas are same. 2-3 are different. Other schools have assessed their GE
courses. We need to decide what disciplines are represented the most in GE’s.
Mireille: How can we come up with list of volunteers for the FIG ASAP?
Stacy: Felicia, Mireille, and I (subcommittee) will meet today from 1-2 pm to figure out the list
of representative people for GE courses and will send an email to them.
Felicia: According to the Standard 2A Accreditation meeting, more clarification about SLO’s is
needed. We must communicate the SLOs to students and be transparent.
Felicia proposes the following: “SLOAC members strongly recommend that faculty include the
SLOs for their courses in their syllabus”. The recommendation will be submitted to Academic
Senate, and hopefully approved there. All SLOAC members voted to approve the
recommendation.
Trish: Students can see what’s on Curricunet. They are accessible.
Mireille: But Curricunet does not have SLOs.
Stacy: Trish has a copy of the Oct 2012 report submitted by SLOAC to ACCJC. She will send
it to me. The report needs to be revisited for Standard 2. We also need the feedback report from
ACCJC on SLOs. You do not get the report unless you ask for it. The VP of Academic Services
can request it. I will contact ACCJC and request it.
SLOAC members were not aware that there was feedback available.
Stacy has a lunch meeting with an ACCJC representative on Sept 15 and she will request
feedback from ACCJC.
Meeting adjourned at 1:00 pm
