Thechangeswehavemadearesignificant.We’vecreatedalistofacceptabletextbook
optionsforallfacultyofCOMM1.OurCommLab(studentsupporttoCOMM1)hasgrown.
AndwehaveattendedconferencesrelatedtoteachingCOMM1aswellasimprovingthe
CommLab.
Wearestillwaitingforadditionalflexorreassignedtimetoworkwithouradjuncts.

strengthshavetheassessmentreflectionsrevealed?Whatactionshasyourdiscipline
determinedmightbetakenasaresultofyourreflections,discussions,andinsights?
COMM1isanimportantcourseforallstudents.ItisoneoptiontouseasaGE
requirementandmoreimportantlyitstrengthensacademicandcareerabilitiesfor
students.Ourstudentsaregettingastrongfoundationiscommunication,learninghowto
adapttovariousvaluesystems,andhowtolistenandrespondeffectivelyasanaudience
member.Ethicsarealsoasignificantcomponenttotheclass,althoughnotassessedon
thisparticularassignment.WebelievestudentsinCOMM1aregettingvitallifeskillsin
ourclasses.
Specifically,inthefuturewewillconsiderwaitinguntiltheendofthesemestertoClose
theLoopaswellasmakemoreconnectionsbetweentheoryandpracticethroughoutthe
semester.

OurCommunicationLabhasgrownsignificantlyoverthelastfewyearsmakingtutorseven
morenecessarytothesuccessoftheLabandconsequentlytothesuccessofstudents
presentingspeechesintheirclasses.Forthatreasonweexpandedourprogrambyadding
thisTutorTrainingcoursetoourcurriculum.Thiscourseworksasalearningenvironment
fortutorswhiletheypreparetomoveuptoapaidtutorposition.Thecoursehasbeen
successfulinsavingtheLabmoneyandmoreimportantlycreatingaspacewheretutorscan
refinetheirtutoringskills.

trainingprogramissuccessfulatpreparingtutorsforthisresponsibility.
