Changing climate, changing forests: Impacts of climate change on the forests of the northeastern US

Climate change continues to evolve as the single most challenging environmental issue of the 21st century. At a global scale, the earth’s climate has warmed over the past century and patterns of precipitation have changed. Perhaps most significantly, the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, such as heat waves, cold waves, wind storms, floods and droughts, is increasing. This extreme and ‘whacky’ weather may play a big role in shaping future forests of the 21st century.
