We are excited for the opportunity to reward our outstanding students and provide financial assistance in furthering your education. This year Chabot College will award over $50,000 in scholarships to deserving students for their outstanding academic achievement, leadership, community service, and perseverance. Please carefully review all rules, deadlines, procedures listed below. Any applications that are late or incomplete will not be considered. General Rules and Requirements Completed 5 Units as of Fall 2015 Minimum 2.0 GPA Application and letters of reference must be typed. Responses to essays must be typed using this application form. Attached essays will not be accepted. You may apply for multiple scholarships on a single application. Unless otherwise noted, scholarships are for educational expenses for the 2015-2016 academic year and will be paid upon proof of enrollment for the F*all 2016 semester. An estimate time for Chabot College students will receive their scholarship in mid-September. Any holds placed on an applicant’s record for payment owed to Chabot College must be resolved before student can receive a monetary scholarship or award or the scholarship amount will be applied towards repayment of debt. OSHER SCHOLARSHIPS - 12 @ $1,000 EACH • • • • • • • • Must be a Chabot College student, with 24 degree applicable units by the beginning of the Fall 2015 semester. Must be eligible to receive the Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver for the 2015 – 2016 Must have applied for a FAFSA or the CA Dream Act application for the 2015 – 2016 school year and demonstrate financial need. Please visit www.fafsa.gov to apply for financial aid if you have not already done so. Student must meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards, with a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA. Must be enrolled in at least 6 units during all terms in which the award remains active. Disbursement of award will take place at the beginning of the semester when enrollment status and SAP are reviewed. Award is non-transferable (can only be used for enrollment while at Chabot College). Awards will be adjusted based on enrolled status: Full-time (12 or more units per term) = up to $500/semester. Three-quarter-time (9 - 11.99 units per term) = up to $375/ semester. Half-time (6 - 8.99 units per term) = up to $250/semester FRESH & NATURAL – 4 @ $500 This scholarship is to recognize four students who will be transferring to a 4-year college, who have exhibited leadership and a commitment to volunteerism in college or community activities. Applicants must be a student in good standing and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher. BOOK STORE SCHOLARSHIP: - 5 @ $500 & 10 @ $500 STORE CREDIT This scholarship is to recognize 15 continuing students who have exhibited leadership and a commitment to volunteerism in college or community activities. Applicants must be a student in good standing, and have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher at Chabot College. MARYLOU CISNEROS MEMORIAL VETERANS SCHOLARSHIP – 1 @ $500 This scholarship was created to honor the memory of MaryLou Cisneros, Chabot College Veterans Specialist. The purpose of the fund is to help a veteran or active member from a branch of the United States Armed Forces continue their educational pursuits. This scholarship application will be distributed with the Chabot College ASCC Scholarship packet in the Spring and will adhere to their deadline dates and criteria for submission. This scholarship remembers Maria del Rocío Zermeño Cárdenas, who went from a ten-year old poor Mexican immigrant in 1964, to one of the Women of the Year in Salinas, California in 1988. She was the sister of J. Francisco Zermeño C., profesor de español en Chabot College. The Zermeño family believes in and maintains a true commitment to community, education, and family. • For transferring students, a $500 check will be sent to the institution the student is transferring to, to be credited to the student’s financial account. • Continuing Chabot Students will receive a $250 Chabot College Bookstore gift card for textbook purchases at the Bookstore and $250 credit to your Chabot account. (If you have a BOG fee waiver you will receive a check instead of a credit to your account.) • Applicants must be a PUENTE participant in good standing, have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better, and completed all steps under “Procedures for Application”. Criteria requirements: • Minimum of 2.5 GPA • Currently working as a Student Assistant on campus • Two reference letters; one from the person for whom you work, one from a person of your choice. Applicants must be current SBBC students in good standing, have a Fall semester grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher • and completed all steps in the application process. Student Senate Scholarships will be awarded as follows: • • To be eligible for a Student Senate of Chabot College Scholarship. Each applicant mut o Have a cumulative GPA above 3.0 at Chabot College o Attach 1 letter of recommendation from any professional at Chabot College (professor, administrator, counselor, etc.) o Complete teh Student Senate Scholarship Essay on the following page. There will be a total of 29 scholarships. o 28 scholarships are each worth $1000 - “Outstanding Chabot College Student” o 1 scholarship will be worth $2000 - “Most Outstanding Chabot College Student” - The winner of this scholarship will be selected from the total pool of applicants based on the strength of their application.
