Meeting called to order at 6:34 PM
1. Welcome/Introductions – Kurt did an introduction, purpose of the meeting, and mission of the
Advisory Board. He noted the California Automotive Teachers, CAT, conference was hosted
by Chabot College Auto Tech in April. Steve Small was the lead person on this highly
successful event.
2. II. Review of Minutes – Kurt
Copies of the last advisory meeting (April 3, 2014) were provided. The minutes were
reviewed. Ron Bridges made a motion to approve the minutes and Roy Dorral seconded it.
All approved the minutes as printed.
3. Automotive Students Success, Enrollment Data: Kurt
Kurt reviewed the Perkins funding data. Data is two years behind current date.
“Degree Work” – Pushing students to apply for certificates and degrees as they complete
sections of the program.
Student Retention – 88.70%
Student Success Rate – 75.02%
Student Population – 242
Grads – 9 AS degrees & 25 certificates for 2013
4. Curriculum – Kurt
All regular classes are continuing
Smog Program class revisions are in development
Service consultant class launched Fall 2014 (ATEC75)
New certificates programs – Hybrid, Service consultant, BMW
Under consideration are – No Credit courses. ASE test prep
We are looking at hybrid delivered classes. Lecture on-line and lab on campus.
Working on revisions to ATEC52, Career Exploration class. Looking at having the high
schools deliver this.
Looking into moving the engine machining classes, ATEC63a/b to machine tool
Looking into electronic text books.
Currently trying to use ASE testing as an option in place of final exams. Cannot force students
to do this because of cost.
Paul Cortes commented that engine machining is becoming a dying breed.
5. Relations
Advisory Committee
BMW
Industry – ASCCA, ATA, Independent Auto Repair facilities, Machinist Union, Haunter
Engineering, Snap On tools, MATCO tools, CarQuest auto parts, NAPA auto parts, new car
Dealers, and other local community colleges
6. Instruction –
Student policies: use of SP2 Safety & Pollution Prevention program for Safety Tests.
Expanded use of the college web sites
New scheduling to allow better access for students to complete certificates and degrees
7. Faculty –
NATEF training requirements – faculty complete the mandatory 20 hours per year on their own
time. The staff agreed to complete 10 hours per semester. All staff need to complete the ASE G1
test per NATEF
8. Facilities – Nothing new to report at this time.
9. Tools and Equipment
In the agreement with Hunter, they are supplying new equipment for program use every six
months or so. We are caught up on most everything at this time. We are looking at getting some
new cut away teaching aids.
Also looking into student teaching aids.
10. Supplies - We acquire what we need through available funding areas (Perkins)
Donations as they come along.
11. Budget – State: Portions, small increases
Chabot: budget for ATEC from the college is minimal.
Perkins: used as major source for our program.
Measure B: nearing the end of its life next year.
BMW: new vehicles, special tools, equipment & parts for the program
TAACCT Grant: Grant is for four years. Providing for a TDI Diesel and CNG vehicle and
instruction items. Approximately $40K.
12. NATEF – Self-evaluation set for Fall 2015, Advisory approval Fall 2015, NATEF on site
visit in Spring 2016, Program re-accreditation by July 2016

14. Observations and recommendations to improve Chabot’s Automotive Program
Paul Cortes said it looks like we have everything under control
Eba Mohamed indicated we need to have better marketing of the Chabot ATEC program.
15. Facilities (Walk Through, review / Evaluation) Facilities walk troughs were offered.
Classroom were open. Kurt asked if anyone had comments to please e-mail him.
