Q6. Did you experience any conflict between your tutees' learning styles or personalities during the group
appointment?
1
Very different skill levels in Japanese, Some students didn't like others, Some
were very quiet while others very talkative and sometimes disruptive
Dec 11, 2012 5:35 PM
2
I tried to work back and forth with the two tutees when the learning style or
troubling subject matter differed. I would assign a small review assignment to
one tutee and then address the issues with the other tutee.
Dec 11, 2012 5:20 PM
3
They did have different learning styles, but I taught each of them differently, so
there was not much of a problem.
Dec 11, 2012 5:16 PM
4
My tutees were at different levels of understanding sometimes; however, I
decided to resolve this by focusing on something they can all improve upon.
Dec 7, 2012 8:37 PM
5
During my last session my tutees were interested in working on differents topic.
This situation has posed to problem in a way that one was not paying attention
since it was not the topic she wanted to work on. I have to just back from topic to
topic to try to make all the tutees feel satisfy during with session. But this is hard
during 50 mins session.
Dec 7, 2012 4:07 PM
6
The original tutee knew the material very well and the 3 tutees that added later
did not so that presented a challenge for pace.
Dec 7, 2012 3:31 PM
7
One student thought the other one was annoying so I sat in between them and
as one student worked on a problem, I helped the other start on a different
problem.
Dec 7, 2012 3:29 PM

I had one student who has learning disabilities and it took me adapting my
learning styles to improve her performance. In her case, she needed to do timed
writing exercises to understand the course content.
Dec 7, 2012 3:29 PM
9
One person was a lot more outspoken and tailoring the tutoring appt more
towards her, while the other student was passive and just went along with the
appt. I am not sure how much she got out of the appointment

I think tutr 1b is more specific to communication in general, which is to be carried

Q14. Do you think TUTR 1A could or should be scheduled as an online course via blackboard, without any on
campus meetings?
1
Despite that the class is only once a month or on certain dates I think that the
time for the classes are just either late in the day or on friday when most
students don't have school and the campus is pretty much shutdown in regards
to the Library, Math Lab, Path and EOPS. Most close around 12 or 1 but then
theres a tutoring class later in the day
Dec 20, 2012 8:41 AM
2
face to face is important because of different learning styles.
Dec 13, 2012 8:41 AM
3
Honestly, after the first semester of tutor 1A and tutor 1B, for me those classes
are not necessary anymore since we were trained for a semester already. Since
the material for both classes seems to be repetitive from the first semester I do
not believe we would need campus meeting since we learned the subject
already, at least I hope everyone learned.
Dec 12, 2012 6:44 PM

5
I think there should be a choice. I love the course in person, but it may be
inconvenient for some
Dec 11, 2012 5:35 PM
6
It could be primarily online. I believe the first session should still be on campus.
Dec 11, 2012 5:20 PM
7
All we did was read material then post responses on blackboard, so practically
half the course is already online.
Dec 11, 2012 5:20 PM
8
I feel this class would be best online as to avoid schedule conflicts.
Dec 11, 2012 5:17 PM
9
Depends on time constraints.
Dec 11, 2012 5:17 PM
10
I think that would be great due to schedule conflicts during the week.
Dec 11, 2012 5:16 PM
11
All the material could be turned in via blackboard. But, I think it is important for
the instructors to check in once in a while with the students. Although, I believe
that there could be less meetings in a semester.
Dec 11, 2012 5:16 PM
12
Only because I don't want to meet on fridays. I am hoping to pick up a second
job.
Dec 11, 2012 5:16 PM
13
Especially tutoring 1A could be scheduled as on online course taught through
blackboard. Again, much of the material concerns logistics and general
knowledge that does not require an in-person classroom setting to effectively
teach.
Dec 11, 2012 5:14 PM

Face to face is best method of communication
Dec 11, 2012 5:14 PM

It would be helpful to have this as an online class. Many of us tutors and LA's are
extremely busy and are very active within the campus, so if we all are able to
learn the material at our own time, it would help us be able to do more. It's very
hard to coordinate a time where we will all meet and not have to give up other
commitments.
Dec 11, 2012 5:12 PM

It could, yes. It is nice to meet other tutors, though.

Dec 7, 2012 3:31 PM

Dec 7, 2012 3:29 PM
23
No, some students would be less likely to participate.
Dec 7, 2012 3:29 PM
24
A lot of the homework is done online, and in class, a lot of the discussion we
have can also be done online. We could keep the semestrerly meeting with Ms.

Dec 7, 2012 3:29 PM
25
It is good for the tutors to interact face to face.
Dec 7, 2012 3:28 PM
26
Sharing experiences while being in the same room together brings a sense of
community among the tutors. If 1A is online, most tutors would not have any
opportunity to talk with different subject tutors.

Q15. Do you think that TUTR 1A could or should be scheduled for one or two longer Saturday meetings with a

the tutor center works, however for the following semester I do not believe this
class is necessary anymore.

They are "ok" where they are at, any significant moves to change or move

Maybe have a very well formulated training for the first semester students and no
more training for the following semester since I believe the students learned how
to tutor already based on the first semester. If the tutors have any further
question regarding a method of teaching for a particular students, or even had a
problem with that student I think the teacher’s door should be left open for this
one specific problem. (teachers I mean the ones who taught us during the

Dec 11, 2012 5:16 PM
18
Specifically the idea of having at least TUTR 1A online or only one or two longer
Saturday sessions instead of once a month is very appealing to me. I have an
issue with the once a month meetings just because it is too easy to forget or
disregard class meetings when considered with a load of other classes that take
up more of my time and attention. As well, an online component would make
more sense when it comes to working on or turning in assignments for the class
because it would allow them to be done over the course of a semester at a more
personal rate.

I love this program! I am so thankful for the opportunity to be a Learning

will suggest for 1B should be made as general science training that will be
