On April 20th, Chabot College with the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District, hosted the Future
Forum, a Congressional listening tour organized
to hear the concerns of college students, ages 18
to 21 years, enrolled at Chabot. The event took
place in the Chabot Event Center and was
moderated by Chabot Political Science Instructor

participants sharing their thoughts on college
affordability, student debt, civic engagement and
various other issues concerning students. Vice

Development Director Maria Ochoa worked
together to make this a seamless and significant
event for all.

Two weeks ago in Cleveland, Ohio, Chabot College Forensics took on the Nation with great success! All

brought home an award!! Congratulations go to:
Bobby John: Bronze Medal, Parliamentary Debate
Seini Houa: Bronze Medal, Programmed Oral Interpretation of Literature

A great showing for a hardworking and dedicated group of students. Amanda Fletcher advanced to the
final round in varsity at every tournament
this semester, including State and
Nationals. Bobby John became the first
debater in over a decade to advance at
Nationals in his first year. Of the last 11
students who have went to Nationals, 9

Dr. Reed L. Buffington Memorial Event
The Memorial event for Dr. Reed Buffington took place in the Chabot Performing Arts Center on Sunday,
April 10. Reed’s family was in attendance and spoke movingly of his twenty years of service as Chabot’s
founding president, as did a number of retirees. Trustee Vecchiarelli Chancellor Jackson, and President
Sperling also made remarks about Dr. Buffington’s contribution and video interviews highlighted
people’s experiences of working with him. A student chamber music group performed beautifully and
the event was a fitting tribute.
College Brown Bag Forum on Hesperian Landscaping/Hardscaping Project
President Sperling hosted a very positive and well-attended Q & A on the Hesperian project on April
16th. Director of Facilities and Bond Program, Doug Horner, and Senior Project Manager, Swinerton
Management & Consulting, Greg Horne, P.E. were both present to answer questions. Students, faculty
and staff had thoughtful questions about the project and there was a projection provided of the final
look of the landscaping and structures when completed.
