Minutes reviewed, moved, seconded
Patricia- Not a single budget presence/representative in PRBC. No representation of budget. Something
needs to be said about this.
Marcia- Recommended that on minutes we add a list of representatives that are absent.
Tram- Recommended that we as co-chairs ask for designee from budget and other absent committees.
Susan assured VP of Business Services will start attending.
Bottleneck Conversation
Jennifer- what courses could be reduced by unit values to fill up FTEF for other courses
Jim- Increase came through curriculum needs to go back to curriculum
Kathy- ACCU had a lead plan to help students be successful such as bridge programming
Deonne- Look at our strategic plan and initiatives. Guidance may come from there. We have not
discussed unit value
Sara- Let’s look at the bottleneck courses.
Mireille- How would changing unit value affect transfer
PRBC Minutes
November 20, 2013
P age |2
Jim- Curriculum committee needs to figure that out
Donna- Many of our classes are overloaded with unit value
Tram- I like Sara’s strategy of looking at bottleneck courses, we have done that in math.
Marco- Maybe we need more talk about schedule? Timing of classes, we need input from counseling
when it comes to scheduling classes.
Sandra- We are looking at using Degree Works to solve this problem
Becky- Counselors have guided students to look at fulfilling areas versus a specific course because of
scheduling cuts
Patricia- We are two years down the road we need Degree Works now
Noelle- I do the “?” for Chabot we need help with Degree Works
Kathy- How many people filled out the survey concerning the district?
Marcia- Matt, English and Communication studies are impacted
Kathy- Maybe we should hold back FTES and allocate more math and English as it is needed.
Jennifer- How do you embed basic skills in all courses? How do we get more learning support?
Patricia- Identify our 3 worst bottlenecks and find a way to improve the situation with the resources we
have available. We need to attack some bottlenecks, no more nibbling around the edges.
Tram- We need to create a team to address the problem, not just teachers from one discipline
Becky- I see this problem all the time; this needs to be solved by a team
Jennifer- Inter-disciplinary group
Patricia- I said discipline, because I wanted to empower the faculty in that area
Jennifer- Would we like to ask a counseling committee to examine unit values of our courses?
Marco- It would seem to me the enrollment management committee needs to look at this bottleneck
problem
Pilot Student survey was passed out to the group
Felicia- The vocabulary in the survey may need to be explained to the students
Carolyn- The purpose of the survey is to pilot it
Program Review
Sandra- Recommends that Program Reviews be read by the committees and specifically respond to the
resource requests submitted. Deans will read the Program Reviews and submit Deans Summary.
PRBC Minutes
November 20, 2013
P age |3
Patricia- Two resources for reading program reviews
1. From a committee perspective
2. Need program review from a n affected area
3. Disciplines want feedback about their work
Marco- Each facility and committee should look at the program review for their area of concern. Program
Review need to guide each committee in their work. Program Review is a tool. How does assessment
guide resource allocation?
Christine- Other colleges are aware that their program reviews are being used to make decisions at the
institution
Sandra- Request to committees to resources program reviews. We also need people to read 2-3 Program
Reviews from areas other than their own.
Jennifer- Last year there was a comments box for available for the Program Review reader.
Faculty Prioritization
Christy- Great turnaround by both PRBC task force and faculty prioritization
Marco- We expected parallels so we created a tool to rank faculty prioritization, much like the work the
PRBC task force did
Matt- I do not see anything on student services. Counseling should not have to the faculty prioritization
process since it is mandated by the state.
Sara- Can we clarify the tool? How will this be used?
Jim- Seems the faculty prioritization has some great tools to use in the process
Marco - I would expect the group will look at and use both documents for faculty prioritization.
Ken – passed out minutes from facility meeting dated October 24, 2013 asked the group to read the 2nd
agenda item
