TV Studio Only
Chabot College Unit Plan, Part I
Our mission: The mission of the TV Studio is to support the college mission and strategic plan, as well as remain a viable revenue
center for the College. We also serve the entire community via our 3 Comcast Television Channels to the entire EAST BAY and also
the State of California and the world via AT&T U-Verse and LIVE streaming. We also receive funds form the City of Hayward for the
D.I.V.C.A. (Digital Infrastructure Video Communications Act) and P.E.G. (Public Education and Government) that makes us fully
self supporting. The TV Studio does this now by having only one staff member. We desperately need more staff to handle the
growing work load and of the art TV studio complex with a second on its way supporting a wide variety of college and community
related programs.
80% of the TV Studio usage is by the outside community, mostly P.E.G. and rentals, or “fee for service” events. Therefore the
majority of the TV Studio’s activities are community based. As such, it not only creates enough revenue to support itself, it also is a
significant tool in community outreach. By looking at the annual use report one can see that the usage of the facility mirrors the
diverse socio-economic make-up of our surrounding community. We have also expanding our services to the Tri-Valley area to cover
Las Positas College and other available areas.
Virtually everything the TV Studio does supports the college’s mission, strategic plan, marketing, and outreach goals.
Ongoing activities: By looking at the annual use report one can see what services we provide the college, and for the community,. We
have become the most modern TV Facility for a community college. We also provide coverage of community events, campus events,
assist cities with their training needs from their Police Departments to their Libraries. In addition, we serve the business community by
making commercials, Public Service Announcements and studio rentals for their many needs.

Chabot College Unit Plan, Part I
Goals of the unit:
To assist the College in anything they need us to do to enhance student learning and experiences. We have an unique opportunity here
that not many colleges have. A working Television Station that is capable of everything that major Television Stations and Hollywood
Production companies can do.
To staff our events in ways that will enable a sustainable revenue stream. To handle the number of increased bookings, and P.E.G.
related needs and to avoid worker burn-out, and to avoid related safety issues, we will be adding more client based hourly on-calls to
Video Editing and Productions as needed until permanent positions are created using the P.E.G. funds as more cities come on board.
To continue on our path of accountability, transparency, client satisfaction, and postiive growth. To continue building on our strategic
plan to increase use days and grow our net profitability in our goal to remain an SSE (Self-Supporting Enterprise). This will help our
students gain the “real” experience they need to get a position in the outside world that no other college can provide.
We also need to think about a new Television Studio building with at least Two Large studios, editing suites, offices, Green Rooms,
Studios should be large enough to drive a vehicle into it. Sound stages, for luring in outside studios and clients to record there.
Control Rooms that can handle the new equipment. We are currently reaching the capacity of the old 1967 building’s electrical
capabilities and space is getting really full.
