Chabot College Positions Requested 2011 Student Services: 1) Position Requested: Executive Assistant to Vice-President Student Services (person holding the position was promoted) Function: Confidential position. Under the supervision of the VPSS or with minimal supervision organizes the communication to and from the VPSS; assists in maintaining on-going communication with the direct reports to the VPSS; is a first point of contact for students and community who have concerns or complaints regarding all services offered; delivers information to students on disciplinary and grievance procedures; organizes materials for utilization of review panels regarding grievance and rights and responsibilities of each case as it is filed; runs reports as needed from that office by the research office and the planning and budgeting committees. 2) Position Requested: Security Officer (SERP replacement) Function: Provides safety and security to campus constituencies. First point of contact for students, faculty and staff regarding inappropriate behavior of students or public on campus. Maximum efficiency will be provided by staggering the shifts of safety personnel 3) Position Requested: Veterans’ Benefit Specialist. (vacant position due to death of employee) Function: Provides direct services to veterans. Connects with VA Administration for the certification of educational benefits to students. Approves educational plans as developed by counselors according to certification requirements set by the Veteran’s administration. Position Requested: Part-time (75%) Mobility Assistant and Shuttle Driver for Disabled Students (ADA Compliance issue) Function: Assists students who are mobility impaired or who are blind so they can get to their classes or places for pick up. (This position could be funded by DSP&S if these funds are available). 4) Position Requested: Alternative Media Specialist (vacant – employee ran out of visa) Function: Provides direct services to disabled students on how to utilize alternative media or various technologies to complete their assignments. The students served include students who are blind or vision impaired, deaf or hard of hearing, or who have learning disabilities. (This position could be funded by DSP&S if these funds are available.) 1 5) Position Requested: Admission and Records Assistant III (SERP) Function: First point of contact for faculty in running rosters, receiving and recording grades in students records, assisting students with admissions and registration. (In this area there have been 2 lay-offs and 1 SERP) 6) Position Requested: Financial Aid Specialist II. (SERP) Function: Provides direct services to students. The workload in this area has increased. This person works with certification of students; making corrections to their records, making adjustments to their grants. (In this area there have been 2 lay-offs and 1 SERP) Academic Services: 1) Position Requested: Curriculum Scheduling Specialist ( only necessary if person is allowed to relocate at LPC) Function: Course scheduling for two divisions – Language Arts and Business and Applied Technology; complete schedule in a timely manner; calculate load; calculate FTEF; run reports as required to maintain accurate sections, times offered, faculty assigned, load assigned. 2) Position Requested: Administrative Assistant to Dean of Math and Science (SERP) Function: Supports the dean in the organization and function of a very large division supporting 37 full time faculty, 48 adjunct faculty, 4 staff, with a traffic of at least 1000 students per semester. Key position in directing students and community to accurate and current information and how to access faculty. Facilitates keeping track of supplies and other needs of faculty as they are requested. Facilitates tracking of expenses as they occur. Interfaces with all offices on campus. Interfaces with schedulers to maintain appropriate assignments for faculty and staff. 3) Position Requested: 50% Evening Supervisor for the Child Development Center. Licensing Requirement. (prior SERP at 100%) Function: The Child Development Center serves as a day and evening lab for Child Development Students. There are 45 children enrolled in evening program at the CDC. This lab component is necessary so that the Child Development Discipline can provide an AA and certificate program. Supervisors’ shifts will be staggered for maximum efficiency. (SERP as a full time – requesting .50 replacement) 4) Position Requested: 50% Staff Assistant (Learning Connection) Function: maintain tutor reporting system i.e. receive and compile student data, compile reports to assess the benefits of tutoring towards student access and student success across all 2 disciplines; assist in the hiring of tutors (close to 100 tutors), assist with payroll of student tutors, assist with scheduling for various different departments, keeps up with various reporting systems. There has been turn over in this area. 5) Position Requested: 50% Career Technical Education Staff Assistant – grant funded Function: Chabot is the recipient of two grants that facilitate Career Technical Education in multiple sites. The work of this unit is to provide off-site instruction and support at the San Leandro Center and various other offices. This staff person will be the only staff supporting the Coordinator to facilitate communication coming to this area, to provide information to the various sites, to compile data and produce reports, to assist with the tracking of expenses incurred and revenue received through this office. Administrative Services 1) Position Requested: Senior Instructional Network Systems Specialist (Current employee receiving “out of class” increase in pay) Function: Permanent Supervisory position which has been filled on a temporary basis through interim assignments for almost two years. This position coordinates, supervises and assigns IT work in all offices, classroom and laboratories on campus. This position also delivers these services throughout the campus. Position Requested: Graphic Arts Technician II (SERP in 2010) Function: to coordinate, to lead and deliver essential media functions to faculty and staff. To lead and coordinate the work of the media center; to research if there are restrictions on copyrighted material before it can be duplicated, to have the skills to produce documents for a variety of needs. (There was also a lay-off in this area, on top of last year’s SERP) 3
