History, trends, and influences of the phenomenon of jazz beginning with pre-Dixieland early
1900's covering the various eras including Swing, Be-Bop and post Be-Bop to present day. 3

Expected Outcomes for Students:
Upon completion of the course, the student should:

5. Be-Bop
6. Cool Jazz

8. Eclectic and Avant Garde
9. Contemporary jazz practices of European and Asian cultures as influenced by the U.S.
