Flex Calendar Proposal for 2011-12
Outline
1. Convocation
a. We would like to limit presentations to the morning and should include district
and college presentations
b. Spend the afternoon discussing district-wide curriculum concerns by discipline
i. TMCs
ii. Course alignment to TMCs and between campuses (making pathways
clearer for students)
iii. Course offerings by campus (offered by both or only one? Number of
sections?)
iv. Other?
2. College Day - Collegial Consultation Conference
a. Naming concerns and narrowing focus to 3 primary problems on our campus
to be prioritized, discussed and the AGENDA for the next academic year for
the entire faculty to work on; organized by Academic Senate
b. Gladiator Day is 11-2; would like for faculty student interface opportunities for
at least 1 hour of this time.
i. Disciplines can decide how they wish to do this, can we come up with
some suggestions?
3. Flex Days (based on needs expressed in survey and program review)
a. September 27
i. Morning workshop block (2 hours)
1. Blackboard
2. Powerpoint
3. CurricuNet?
4. College Wide Learning Goal FIG(s)

7. Accept proposals for interdisciplinary conversations
ii. Student Voices – How do students view our curriculum, pedagogy, and
our processes? (2 hours)
1. Who are the students in our community?
2. What do they want from their time at Chabot? What do they
not want from their time at Chabot?
3. How can staff and faculty work together to make pathways
clearer for students?
4. Possible guest speaker(s)?
5. Students speak to faculty
iii. Worktime (2 hours)
1. By division/discipline – faculty chose what they wish to
accomplish during this time, must submit activity plan by
September 1. Follow-up report needed.

ii. Afternoon (3 hours)
1. By division/discipline – faculty chose what they wish to
accomplish during this time, must submit activity plan by
January 15. Follow-up report needed.
4. Additional Flex Days to further work on Collegial Consultation Conference
identified issues
a. Can have up to 3 more Flex Days
b. Committee members expressed concerns regarding losing more instructional
days to Flex:
i. Questions:
1. Can have Flex Day(s) in January prior to start of semester?
2. Can have “rolling” Flex Days – if organize into task forces,
each one have designated meetings that count as flex days
3. What other means can be used, aside from Flex, to involve
many faculty?
c. Ask Academic Senate to determine dates and what they envision happening on
each (what are goals? How will these be achieved?)s.
d. Requests:
i. Before starting to work, all faculty need to be on the same page in
terms of background knowledge
1. What is stated mission of CA community colleges and how this
has changed over time?
2. How has Chabot’s mission, organization, and programs
changed over time?

3. What is the new legislation that has passed and is being
considered? How does this impact us? What are the
implications for our planning?
4. What do we have the power to do as a college and what has to
be taken to Las Positas? To district?

In addition to identifying “primary problems”, also identify areas in which we are successful
and can expand these efforts (build on strengths, bolster/change weak areas)
