The requirements for a BS in Mathematics include the completion of one of the following
concentrations:
Applied Mathematics: Three courses from:
MATH 322 Differential Equations, MATH 342 Design and Analysis of Experiments, MATH 343
Applied Regression Analysis, MATH 361 Coding and Signal Processing, (MATH 381 Operations
Research), MATH 385 Combinatorics and Graph Theory, MATH 461 Probability Models and
Applications, MATH 462 Mathematical Statistics, (MATH 471 Numerical Analysis, MATH 472
Matrix Computation).
Computer Science: Three courses from COMPSCI 221 and higher.
Statistics: Three courses from MATH 240 Statistical Methods, MATH 243 Nonparametric
Statistics, MATH 342 Design and Analysis of Experiments,
MATH 343 Applied Regression Analysis, MATH 441 Math in Sports, MATH 446 Biostatistics,
MATH 461 Probability Models and Applications, MATH 462 Mathematical Statistics
Actuarial Science: Three courses from MATH 343 Applied Regression Analysis, (MATH 381
Operations Research), MATH 461 Probability Models and Applications, MATH 462 Mathematical
Statistics
Graduate School Preparation: MATH 310 Abstract Algebra and MATH 421 Advanced Calculus
are both required (one of which counts as a core class in the major). Two courses from MATH 360
Number Theory, MATH 385 Combinatorics and Graph Theory, (MATH 422 Complex Variables),
(MATH 411 Group Theory, MATH 451 Topology).
Physics: Three courses PHYSICS 300 or higher.
Note: The “Three courses” requirement implies three different courses and at least 9 credits.
Note: Courses listed in parentheses are not regularly offered, but might be taken by individualized
instruction.
Note: Appropriate Special Topics courses may be used to substitute for the above courses with the
permission of the advisor and department chair.
