RN REFRESHER COURSE: SPRING 2016
The CSU RN Refresher Course is designed for RNs who wish to update their knowledge and clinical understanding,
whether it be to move to a new position or return to employment in nursing. The program, now in its 40th year, has
been taken by thousands of nurses in Ohio and beyond. While the main focus of the course is adult medical-surgical
nursing, sessions also cover a review of nursing process, clinical decision-making, basics of electronic health
records, wound/ostomy care, and specific considerations for care of the elderly. Topics covered include care of
patients with respiratory, cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, orthopedic, endocrine, and neurologic problems.
A special session will cover Ohio Law and Rules pertaining to nursing practice (Category A). The course is an
intensive learning experience consisting of classroom instruction, outside reading, and skills lab experience.
Weekly quizzes and a comprehensive final examination facilitate learning. Additional resources are available
through the Blackboard online learning system. To successfully complete the course you must attend at least 80%
of the class sessions, take all quizzes/exams, complete online modules and an evaluation form. Those who
successfully complete the course will earn 78 contact hours*, including two (2) hours of Category A. The course
content exceeds the requirements for nursing license reactivation through the Ohio Board of Nursing. Seven halfday lab sessions are included in the program. These hands-on simulation experiences are held in our new Nursing
Resource Lab (NRL). The laboratory content reflects evidence-based practice and instructor analysis of nursing
interventions in specific patient care situations.

Fridays, 9:00 am to 4:30 pm (lunch on your own each day for one hour)
