Weekly Report
May 6, 2016
The Office of Planning and Assessment reports its weekly activities and contributions toward Texas Tech
University’s institutional effectiveness efforts.
OUTCOME 1: Texas Tech will be found in compliance with all external accrediting agencies and State of Texas mandates
• Over the past week, the Office of Planning and Assessment has been highly engaged with faculty credentialing issues related to the upcoming State of Texas formula funding audit (May 16-20). OPA developed a process in 2015 to secure faculty transcripts and credentialing information. The process was simple, yet effective. Individual colleges are responsible for sending faculty transcripts for all active Instructors of Record (IOR). Tenure-track faculty transcripts are primarily managed through the Office of the Provost, while OPA manages all other IORs. Transcripts and certifications are scanned and digitally managed by the Provost’s office. Other IORs are managed similarly through OPA. The final step in the process is to file all hard copy transcripts in fire-proof cabinets in the Provost’s basement. Periodically, OPA runs reports of all active instructors using the Faculty
Roster in DigitalMeasures. This report is what was used with SACSCOC during our successful reaffirmation. This report is also being used for the formula funding audit for the period of Summer
2014, Fall 2014, and Spring 2015. Approximately 2,700 faculty compose the faculty roster for this particular time period. o
Currently, all paper copy transcripts housed in OPA are scanned and saved on the office’s internal shared drive. We were able to confirm all but 47 of the 2700 faculty who appear on the roster. Throughout this audit process, OPA has gained new insights into effectiveness and efficiencies needed within the process, primarily the need for improved communication between departmental business managers and our office.
• OPA staff prepared an updated Substantive Change report which included many new items from the
March Academic Council Meeting (listed below). Minutes for Board of Regents’ meeting have not been posted since December 2015, but OPA is checking regularly for these and will report as soon as possible. o

On Friday, May 6, the growing college-going movement known as Generation Texas (GenTX) will once again rally communities to join together on GenTX Decision Day in support of a statewide, daylong celebration to inspire students to pursue and achieve a higher education. “Over the past six years, GenTX Decision Day has helped create a college-going culture across the state. To achieve the goals of the 60x30TX strategic plan for higher education, Texas must explore and promote a variety of options to encourage students to pursue a college education,” said Texas
Higher Education Commissioner Raymund Paredes. “Lifetime earnings increase significantly for those with a postsecondary credential, whether it be a certificate, associate or bachelor’s degree or beyond, providing greater opportunities for all Texans.” o

• OPA worked with Meghan Goerke, DigitalMeasures Account Support, on the Signature Screen work request. This work request will be competed mid-May and we will be able to test the process.
• Application and Development is working on the Raiders Engaged updated instrument. It was previewed this week and appears to be on track to be open early June. OPA was asked to speak at
Academic Council May 17 about Raiders Engaged.
In addition to direct contributions toward the departmental goals, OPA continues to focus on continuous improvement measures.
