A wealth of Opportunities
▪ Undergraduate Research
Why Psychology at Texas Tech?
The Department of Psychology at Texas
Tech is committed to excellence in teaching, nationally recognized research, and
outstanding service to the university, profession and community. You’ll find this a
vibrant department with approximately 900
undergraduate majors, 120 graduate students, 28 tenured or tenure-line faculty, a
psychology training clinic, and an exceptional staff recognized as the “most helpful
department” by a recent reader’s choice
poll in the Daily Toreador.
We are proud of our undergraduate program leading to a BA in Psychology, our
doctoral programs in clinical and counseling psychology which are both accredited
by the American Psychological Association, and our masters and doctoral programs in Social Psychology, Cognitive/
Applied Cognitive Psychology, and Human
Factors (accredited by the Human Factors
and Ergonomics Society).
Our faculty and students represent a broad
range of expertise and interests. Dedicated
to the creation and dissemination of
knowledge in the psychological sciences,
our faculty members are outstanding teachers, researchers and professional leaders in
psychology at the state, regional and national levels. We take great pride in creating an environment conducive to learning,
growth and development for all of our students. Our undergraduates have an excellent record of achieving admission to graduate programs and our doctoral student
alumni have succeeded as academicians,
clinicians, researchers and in related positions in industry.

Providing research experiences for students is a widely recognized goal of a
college education. Students in Psychology participate in a range of activities that
draw them into the contemporary culture
of psychological science and integrate
them more fully into the practice of inquiry and research. The National Research
Council, the National Science Foundation,
and the American Association for the Advancement of Science recommend all undergraduate students pursue research projects and get involved early. Our students
work on research projects in lab and field
settings under the guidance of faculty
mentors, beginning as early as their freshman and sophomore years.
▪ Psi Chi—Student Organization
Psi Chi is the International Honor Society
in Psychology, founded in 1929 for the
purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and
maintaining excellence in scholarship, and
advancing the science of psychology.
Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate students. Psi Chi is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for
Psychological Science (APS). Psi Chi's
sister honor society is Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology for community and junior colleges.
▪ Graduate Education
The department offers graduate level
programs in clinical training, counseling, and experimental psychology. The
clinical training program is a scientistpractitioner training model with equal
emphasis on the scientist and practitioner components. The integration of these
two aspects is a major strength of the
program. Our graduates are able to pursue positions in clinical practice, research, teaching, or a combination of
these. The counseling program prepares
students for positions as counseling psychologists in a variety of settings. The
experimental division of the department
cctr@ttu.edu
comprises programs in applied cognitive
psychology, human factors, and social
psychology.

expressed in TCCNS designations.
Applying Transfer Hours to a
Four-year Degree
▪ The Transfer Evaluation Office in the
Office of the Registrar at Texas Tech
determines which courses taken at
another institution may be accepted
for credit.
▪ The academic associate dean of the
Texas Tech college in which a student enrolls has authority for determining which courses will be applied toward the specific degree
program chosen.
▪ Students must earn a grade of C or
better for all courses fulfilling requirements in majors, minors, or specialization's.
▪ A maximum of 66 semester credit
hours from two-year institutions
may be applied toward the baccalaureate degree at four-year institutions. Although, all credit hours presented on the sending institution's
transcripts will be evaluated and
equivalent college level courses posted to the student's academic record.
