Optimum Transfer Guide: Biology
A Wealth of Opportunities Await ...
▪ Undergraduate Research
The department encourages undergraduate
students to engage in research with professors working in laboratories and on projects
to obtain hands-on experience conducting
research in the life sciences. One such opportunity is to work with the Texas Tech
Howard Hughes Medical Institute Science
Education program at the Center for the Integration of Science Education and Research
(CISER). This is an established, undergraduate research program (celebrating 20 years
at TTU in 2012) that provides students with
a significant, long-term research experience
that prepares them for postgraduate studies
in science and/or medicine, or for alternative
studies in science, such as environmental
law.
Why Study Biology?
▪ Study Abroad
There are many opportunities for undergraduate students in the department of Biology. You can study evolutionary biology,
ecology and environmental biology, cell and
molecular biology and several areas of biotechnology.
Want to Study in Spain or Italy? Why not
earn academic credit towards your major or
minor while learning and living in a foreign
country. Improve your foreign language
skills and learn about other cultures while
having fun and meeting new people.

broad spectrum of programs and courses in
the liberal arts; humanities, mathematics,
and social , behavioral, and natural sciences.
The primary function of the college is to
impart to students the knowledge, skills of
thinking and communicating, and values and
attitudes that constitute a liberal education.
The faculty of the college seek to instill in
their students a humanistic spirit, an appreciation of creativity, a commitment to excellence and truth, an ability to think critically
and communicate effectively, and a desire
for lifelong learning.

Texas Common Course Number
System (TCCNS)
The Texas Common Course Numbering
System (TCCNS) aids students in the
transfer of general academic courses between Texas public colleges and universities throughout the state. Course recommendations in this transfer guide
are expressed in TCCNS designations.
Applying Transfer Hours to the
Degree
▪ The Transfer Evaluation Office in the
Office of the Registrar at Texas Tech
determines which courses taken at
another institution may be accepted
for credit.
▪ The academic associate dean of the
Texas Tech college in which a student enrolls has authority for determining which courses will be applied toward the specific degree
program chosen.
▪ Students must earn a grade of C or
better for all courses fulfilling requirements in majors, minors, or specialization's.
▪ A maximum of 66 semester credit
hours from two-year institutions
may be applied toward the baccalaureate degree at four-year institutions. Although, all credit hours presented on the sending institution's
transcripts will be evaluated and
equivalent college level courses posted to the student's academic record.
