2003-2006:
Project Director for Homeland Security Grant awarded to the University of
Nevada Las Vegas (Dr. Sterling Saddler, Principle Investigator). Project entailed
working with the Department of Homeland Security to develop an innovative
training curriculum to train first responder security force personnel from
hotel/casinos, special events, and shopping malls. To date this program has
trained over 260 personnel.

1989 – 1995:
General Manager of Kentucky Fried Chicken units that grossed in excess of
one million dollars annually. Units located in international tourist markets in
Orlando, Florida and Las Vegas, Nevada. Chief of Security for the Las Vegas
market of Kentucky Fried Chicken as additional responsibility, 1991 – 1995.
Military Employment:
Naval Flight Officer and Operation Test and Evaluation Director for several
high technology aviation and computer software programs with an operational
budget of $2,500,000. Required to plan, organize, and schedule program testing
as well as to meet with both military and civilian defense contractors to insure
timely project completion. As a naval aviator, amassed over 3500 flight hours in
five different aircraft and made five overseas deployments aboard four different
aircraft carriers.
Director of Aviation and Industrial Safety for an organization of over 1000
personnel flying 12 dissimilar aircraft. Amassed over 65,000-accident free flight
hours; successfully ran a two-year accident free driving program. Received Chief
of Naval Operation’s Safety Award and several other aviation and driving safety
awards.
Combat veteran, spent 2 + tours in Vietnam from 1965-1969 as a United States
Marine, and participated in 12 major combat operations.

Hospitality Industry. This is a pilot study to determine what curriculum is being
taught in higher education hospitality programs that address the issues of crisis
management and security. This pilot resulted in a new graduate elective course
approved by the graduate college, “Managing Crisis in the Hospitality Industry”.
2005-2007: Conducting two research projects within the College of Education,
Department of Educational Leadership.
A. An assessment of the need for a first of its kind doctoral degree in
Security Studies. This study will be utilized for my doctoral
dissertation.
B. A study to determine the current state of preparedness of rural
higher education institutions to deal with crisis management in the
post-911 era, focusing on Crisis Management Planning for both
administrators and faculty.
