The Community Foundation of West Texas
The Community Foundation of West Texas, formerly known as the Lubbock Area Foundation,
Inc. is an independent, non-profit, publicly supported, tax-exempt organization founded in 1981
to help donors meet the existing and future needs of the area’s educational, health, cultural, civic
and charitable organizations. The Foundation’s scope goes beyond social service and welfare;
our donors are improving the overall quality of life in the South Plains area.
The Community Foundation of West Texas administers a variety of charitable funds.
Recognizing the importance of scholarships, especially with decreasing dollars for education at
the federal level and increasing educational costs for students, the Foundation is pleased to
administer the Lubbock Manufacturers Scholarship Fund, which is described below.
The Lubbock Manufacturers Scholarship Fund
The purpose of this scholarship is to promote the study and practice of industrial technologies in
the Lubbock area. The scholarship program exists to enhance the lifestyle of Lubbock County
residents, provide educational opportunities for deserving students majoring in industrial
technologies and provide a quality work force in order for area manufacturers to grow and
prosper, and create career opportunities in world class professions.
Eligibility Requirements:
Without discrimination toward race or sex, the following eligibility requirements shall apply to
candidates for the Lubbock Manufacturers Scholarship:
1. Student must be a graduating senior of a South Plains area high school, except for renewal
candidates.
2. Student must have maintained a minimum GPA of: 2.5 for overall curriculum and 3.0 for
Industrial Technology or Metal Trades courses.
3. Student should display exceptional interest, ability and aptitude to perform in the fields of
Industrial Technology.
4. Chosen recipients may reapply annually to renew the scholarship. The student must
remain in an approved Industrial Technology curriculum.
5. Pursuit of construction trades and architecture shall not be considered approved Industrial
Technology fields for the purposes of the LMSF.
Selection Process:
 The Scholarship Advisory Committee will review completed applications and make
recommendations to the Community Foundation of West Texas Board of Directors,
which will make the final decision on the scholarship awards.
 Incomplete applications will not be considered.
 The recipients will be announced by July 25th.
Scholarship Fund Disbursement:
1. An annual one-time award will be made prior to the beginning of the Fall semester.
2. Scholarship payments will be made directly to the school in which the student is enrolling
and may be used for tuition, fees and books only. Any funds remaining at the end of the year
for which the scholarship was intended must be returned to the Community Foundation of
West Texas.
Application Procedures:
All scholarship applications must be completed in full and submitted by July 15th.

2. The applicant should complete the application by typing or printing all answers.
3. The student must complete pages 1 - 6 and take the application to their career counselor,
industrial technology teacher or metal trades teacher who will complete page 7.
