This proposal uses that chosen location to update the relationship of the JWST star tracker (STA) coordinate frame to the FGS1 Ideal frame, This calibrates the telescope "boresight", so that in subsequent activities the selected location within the segment PSF pattern for a target star can be delivered by the ACS to the intended location within e.g. NIRCam module FOV. 1 JWST Proposal 1135 (Created: Tuesday, May 24, 2016 8:16:32 AM EST) - Overview After executing the memory load to apply the updated FGS Ideal-to-J-frame alignment matrix onboard, we will take confirmation images to verify desired pointing. This is done with 2 observations (module A first, then both modules) to get enough coverage to detect a number of segment PSFs. A small mosaic is also programmed on hold in case the segment distribution is more sparse than expected. See the document PIF OTE-02 which gives a detailed discussion of Alignment Matrix Update - 1 OBSERVING DESCRIPTION PURPOSE: Execute memory load to update the FGS Ideal-to-J-frame alignment matrix. This relates star trackers to FGS, so that a selected location centered on the segment PSF pattern for a target star can be delivered by the ACS to the intended location within the NIRCam module FOV. After that load has been applied onboard, take an image to confirm desired pointing. See the document PIF OTE-02 which gives a detailed description of Alignment Matrix Update - 1 RATIONALE: Due to uncertainties in the alignment of the JWST Deployable Tower Assembly (DTA) we may have a systematic pointing error of tens of arcminutes, and we do not wish to carry that error into subsequent commissioning steps In OTE-01, we will have just found the segment PSF positions (for most/all segments), and based on that data we will choose some location relative to the segment distribution that we wish to define as the target position for subsequent operations. OBSERVATIONS: The first APT activity is a Real-time Commanding upload of the new k-constants comprising the FGS Ideal-to-J-frame Rotation Matrix. (These will 2 JWST Proposal 1135 (Created: Tuesday, May 24, 2016 8:16:32 AM EST) - Overview be generated prior to upload by a team consisting of the authors, FOT, and/or NGAS, TBD, using an NGAS-supplied tool/procedure and usersupplied empircally determined information.). The subsequent activities are two NIRCam observations, required to execute after the RT commanding. The first is centered on the A module and the 2nd is centered on both modules. The 1st observation provides the opportunity for a simple directly measurable pixel location of the desired point within the segment. The 2nd observation provides greater coverage for greater chance of getting multiple PSFs (and is relatively low cost) to support a more accurate fit of the location of the desired point. Finally, we include a 3rd observation that is on hold, which is a 3x3 mosaic. This last observation should only be executed if the first two return an ambiguous portion of the PSF cloud. 3 Special Requirements Spectral Elements Template Observation Proposal 1135 - Observation 1 - OTE-02: STA-FGS Alignment Matrix Update -1 (for DTA Deploy Errors) Proposal 1135, Observation 1 Diagnostic Status: No Diagnostics Observing Template: Realtime Commanding Comments: 1. Deliver appropriate spacecraft memory load containing the alignment matrix k-constants to the Loads PRD. Rapid CM/CM/CRB approval 2. Create Ops Request for the realtime upload. 3. Once the Ops Request is received by the FOS, retrieve the Spacecraft memory load from the Loads PRD and prepare for uplink. 4. Execute ops request to upload the k-constants. 5.
