Resolution of Thanks to Chancellor David Smith, proposed by the Faculty Senate Agenda
Committee
WHEREAS Dr. David Smith has served the Texas Tech University System for six years as President of
the Health Sciences Center and for four years as Chancellor; and
WHEREAS Dr. Smith’s tenure has seen substantial growth in enrollment at Texas Tech University,
nearly $250 million in fundraising, $500 million in construction of new facilities, and record federal
appropriations to the University System; and
WHEREAS Dr. Smith has announced his plans to resign the Chancellorship effective 28 February
2006;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Faculty Senate meeting on this 8th day of February 2006 thanks Dr.
Smith him for his service to the Texas Tech University System and wishes him well in his future
endeavors;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT copies of this resolution be distributed to Chancellor David
Smith, President Jon Whitmore, and members of the Texas Tech University System Board of Regents.
