Presently in charge of a research program on Improved Oil Recovery using
Miscible Flooding Process in general and CO2 miscible flooding in particular in a
major oil reservoir in Saudi Arabia. The previous phase covered field review of the
concerned Saudi reservoir and generalities on CO2 miscible flooding in tight
reservoirs. The present phase of this program is concentrating mostly on reservoir
characterization and geological evaluation, phase behavior, Slim Tube studies and
core flooding experiments.


Performed reservoir engineering studies on various fields in Saudi Arabia.
Participated in the development of a program to construct a cross sectional model
between wells based on the Fractal Theory.
Performed laboratory studies to optimize the productivity of horizontal wells and
minimize the effect of water coning during a waterflooding project.
Performed a numerical simulation study on compositional modeling of gas, gas
condensate and light oil reservoirs for SAUDI ARAMCO.
Performed laboratory studies to minimize formation damage during a
waterflooding project.
Performed well-test analysis and simulation to evaluate various causes of low
sweep efficiency and low productivity of horizontal and multilateral wells. In this
study, the combined effects of formation damage, anisotropy ratio and horizontal
well completion was estimated.
Studied the impact of natural fractures on the performance of water-flooding on a
reservoir in Saudi Arabia.






This service was taking care mainly of performing well test operations, production
monitoring and survey of the producing wells.
Head of Production Division, District of Hassi Messaoud, Jan. 1973-Dec. 1974.
This division comprises different services such as the Measurement, Completion,
and
Drilling and Workover Services. Hassi Messaoud district produced
approximately 0.40 MM STB/D of oil at that time. The work force was
approximately 25 engineers and up to 7 - 8 rigs working simultaneously.

o Developed and chaired the Graduate Program Committee during the first eight

SAUDI ARAMCO – Berri/Upper Fadhili Reservoir, Saudi Arabia – Improved Oil
Recovery project using CO2 miscible flooding process. This project is a multiphase
project to study the feasibility of increasing the recovery from this reservoir. The various
phases include:
o Review of past reservoir performances of Berri/ Upper Fadhili formation.
o Geology and the reservoir characterization
o Phase behavior and review of history of the PVT studies performed on live bottom
hole hamples performed on Berri/Upper Fadhili reservoir.
o Slim Tube study performed using live oil samples and recombined samples.
o Minimum miscibility pressure study using correlation and comparison with
experimental results.
o Core flooding displacements
o Preliminary evaluation for a pilot study.

SAUDI ARAMCO – Haradh/Ghawar Arab-D Reservoir, Saudi Arabia – Evaluation
of effect of formation damage in Haradh reservoir. Estimation of the production loss and
remedial actions in horizontal wells in Haradh reservoir.
o Review and history of drilling the horizontal wells in the Haradh area of Ghawar
reservoir.
o Review of the main parameters affecting the performance of horizontal wells in
Haradh.
o Wrote a computer program to perform a study and analysis of the significant
parameters that affect horizontal well performance in Haradh reservoir.
o Completed an experimental study of formation damage in Haradh using actual
samples of drilling in Haradh reservoir.
o Provide criteria for improving well performance and recommendations for
minimizing formation damage in Ghawar field.

SAUDI ARAMCO – Hanifa dual permeability Reservoir, Saudi Arabia – Reservoir
characterization study of this reservoir using numerical simulation. This project
consists of developing a program to construct a cross sectional model between wells
based on the Fractal theory.
o Performed history match of existing wells using production data, ell test data and
production logs.
o Completed a reservoir description study of Hanifa reservoir using Formation Micro
Scanner and Formation micro imaging log (FMS/FMI).

SAUDI ARAMCO – Khuff Gas field, Saudi Arabia – Completed a study on

compositional modeling of gas, gas condensate and light oil reservoirs.
o Worked with a team of computer programmers to develop an interface to use a
phase behavior software in an in-house compositional simulator developed in
SAUDI ARAMCO
o Updated the output results using laboratory phase behavior data.

SAUDI ARAMCO – Safanyah Reservoir, Saudi Arabia – Completed a study to
alleviate the effects of water conning in horizontal wells in Safanyah reservoir. The
project was finished successfully.
o Studied the history producing horizontal wells under water conning in Safanyah
reservoir Saudi Arabia.
o Built a petrophysical model to study experimentally horizontal wells behavior
under the influence of water conning in Safanyah.
o Provided guidelines on how to alleviate the effect of water coning during
exploitation and establishment of critical rate to limit water cut.
o Provided recommendation for future completion of horizontal wells in Safanyah.

material balance, core analysis, relative permeability and capillary pressure,
multiphase flow, PVT analysis, water flooding, tracer flow, water/gas coning,

Reservoir Simulation:
Full field simulations using black oil simulation, compositional simulation, tracer
simulation, streamline simulation. Up-scaling techniques, well test analysis, coupled
surface facility & reservoir modeling, and computer coding for reservoir simulation.
Improved Oil Recovery:
Miscible flooding, CO2 flooding, slim tube tests, core flooding to evaluate miscible
process, phase behavior
