7.5 acres of landscaped
grounds that make up the
Texas Discovery Gardens in
Dallas. As executive director of
the second-oldest botanical
institution in Texas, gardens
are more than just a job for
Martin; they are a way of life.

A collaboration of research efforts spanning more than a decade takes a closer look at
how West Texas producers farm and how farming affects the environment. The shared
goal of finding methods that would keep agriculture profitable for producers and
preserve natural resources linked Texas Tech with the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and
Extension, farmers, the High Plains Underground Water Conservation District No. 1 and

AEC’s Dodd tapped for prestigious National FFA Africa Outreach Program
The National FFA Organization has selected a Texas Tech graduate student to participate
in its inaugural FFA Global Outreach: Africa program. Described by program officials as a
once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, it features an all-expense-paid trip to Zambia, Africa, to
help local farmers fight area hunger and poverty through sustainable agriculture and

for colleges to connect students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni is through one of
these sites. Texas Tech’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources
Development Office and Student Services Center, in a combined effort, use a Facebook
