Texas Tech sets fall
enrollment record; CASNR
contributes
1,927 to total
Texas Tech’s
College of
Agricultural
Sciences and
Natural Resources continued its
record-setting student enrollment
pace, maintaining last year’s
standout numbers with 1,927
students signing up for classes in
the fall semester, university
officials reported today (Sept. 20).
CASNR tallied 1,577
undergraduate students and 350

Fulbright Scholar, noted soil scientist named endowed professor in
Tech PSS
A nationally-recognized expert in land use planning and a Fulbright Scholar has been
selected as the B.L. Allen Endowed Professor of Pedology in Texas Tech University’s
Department of Plant and Soil Science. David Weindorf, who joins the highly successful
agricultural academic unit after serving six years at Louisiana State University, stepped
into his new post on Sept. 1. more »
Global View; CASNR hosts Haiti visitors in hopes of academic
collaboration
Striving toward a goal of sustainability, Reginald Cean, the director of the agriculture
program at the Learning Center Fritz Lafontant (CFFL) in Corporant, Haiti, visited Texas
Tech University on Thursday (Sept. 12) to meet with the College of Agricultural
Sciences and Natural Resources administration officials to discuss opportunities for

When Lyda Garcia came to Texas Tech as an undergraduate, she was overwhelmed by
the size of the campus. Now, the South Texas native is back as a visiting assistant
professor in Tech’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences, and has started a new
organization, ‘Minorities in STEAM,’ to help students who may feel the same way.

Blake Grisham joins Tech’s Natural Resources Management
Department
Blake Grisham, a bird expert who’ll focus on climate response modeling, has been
named an assistant professor in Texas Tech University’s Department of Natural
Resources Management, according to officials within the College of Agricultural
Sciences and Natural Resources. He officially stepped into his new teaching and
research post on Sept. 1. more »
Integrated Scholar: Provost spotlights landscape architecture’s DeMera
Ollinger
Texas Tech University’s Provost Office reported today on the progress of the
Department of Landscape Architecture’s DeMera Ollinger and her academic path as an
Integrated Scholar. Specifically, officials note that along with a commitment to
academics, the Dumas native is pursuing, “a course of lifelong study through their
involvement in active learning experiences.” more »

Summit
Led by a outstanding departmental magazine, The Agriculturalist, Texas Tech’s
Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow chapter had a strong showing earlier this
month at the national ‘Ag Media Summit’ in Buffalo, NY. Tech students brought home
several top awards, in addition to taking on a standout leadership position for the

Piercy
The director of development and external relations for Texas Tech’s College of
Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources today (Jun. 18) was presented the National
Agricultural Alumni and Development Association’s Monumental Achievement Award.
Jane Piercy received the honor at the group’s national conference in Washington, D.C.
