The Office of Research and Graduate Studies
Deadline: March 9, 2012
URL: http://www.csuohio.edu/research/internalfundingprograms/index.html
The Office of Research and Graduate Studies is pleased to announce the call for proposals
for the Doctoral Dissertation Research Expense Award and Fellowship Program (DDREAFP).
This Program provides funding to support specific doctoral student dissertation research
expenses. Awards will be made competitively to doctoral students to pursue dissertation
research.
Proposals must focus on dissertation research, which requires funding in excess of what can
be supported through normal academic program operating budgets. Successful applicants
must submit a clear and well-organized application that provides evidence of the proposed
research problem’s significance and use of appropriate research methods. The maximum
possible award under the Doctoral Dissertation Research Expense Award and Fellowship
Program is $5,000. If any of these awardees have also submitted through the university an
external grant proposal in response to an established funding opportunity, and if that grant
was subjected to a competitive review process within the preceding year, they will then also
be eligible for a fellowship of up to $10,000.
The DDREAFP guidelines and the fill-in Application Cover Page can be found on the Office of
Research website (URL above) under “Internal Funding Programs”. For more information,
please contact Barbara Bryant, 687-3624, or via email: b.bryant@csuohio.edu or the
Graduate Grant Writing Center at Ext. 3625. Visit the above URL for details.

NSF will award grants to doctoral students to improve the quality of dissertation research.
These grants provide funds for items not normally available through the student's
university. Additionally, these grants allow doctoral students to undertake significant datagathering projects and to conduct field research in settings away from their campus that
would not otherwise be possible. Proposals are judged on the basis of their scientific merit,
including the theoretical importance of the research question and the appropriateness of the
proposed data and methodology to be used in addressing the question.
In an effort to improve the quality of dissertation research, many programs in both BCS
and SES, the Research on Science and Technology Surveys and Statistics program within
NCSES, and the Science of Science and Innovation Policy program in SMA accept doctoral
dissertation improvement grant proposals. Requirements vary across programs,
so proposers are advised to consult the relevant program's webpage for specific information
and contact the program director if necessary.
