Measurable Results
1 Mission
The Community Alumni Network of Drexel University (“CAN DU”), an outreach program of the Drexel University Alumni
Association, supports alumni, students, faculty, and staff in making a difference in our community. This group embraces civic
engagement, social responsibility, giving back, volunteerism, and leadership development. The team consists of talented alumni
with the motivation to provide time and resources which enable campus partnerships and outreach with Drexel alumni in the
Greater Philadelphia region, nation, and globe.
3 Major Programs
• CAN DU Earth Day Project, Saturday, April 12th, Fairmount Park
• Earth Week with Jay Coen Gilbert, Co-Foudner of B Lab, Thursday, April 10th, 1 pm, Pearlstein Business Learning Center
• Earth Day Educational Fair, Tuesday, April 8th, 11 am to 2 pm, The Quad
13 Important Alumni Association Partners
Center for Civic Engagement (Pennoni Honors College), Circle K, The DAC Pack, Department of Athletics, Division of
Student Life, Fraternity and Sorority Life, LeBow College of Business, School of Public Health, Undergraduate Student
Government Association, the Drexel Smart House, Fairmount Park Commission, Connexus Technology and PhillyCarShare
237 Earth Day Project Participants
3,100 approximate volunteer hours of total participation for both programs, meetings, and planning
32 alumni with 12 first time participants and approximately 200 “future alumni!”
39 students used this activity for CCE credits
19 tons of debris (invasive vegetation, downed logs, etc.) removed
1.5 tons of trash, recycling and leaves removed
89 native trees and shrubs planted at the 3 – 3.5 acre site at the Earth Day Project at 52nd Street &
Parkside Avenue
1,200 sneakers collected for the Nike's "Reuse-A-Shoe" program
100 free eco-friendly bottles of FRED (a new bottled water) distributed by Drexel Athletes
10 active tables at the Earth Day Education Fair and 1 Basketball Hoop including a visit from the
Drexel Mascot, Mario, at the Educational Fair
15 to 35 participants per planning meeting representing multiple partners
