HHP Journey to Wellness Spring 2016 Programs TNT 6 Tuesdays, February 9 – March 15, 2016, Noon – 1pm in Woodling Gym Instructors Sarah Kirk and Alicia Loreta TNT (Talk/No Talk) is designed for you to experience small bouts of exercise in which talking is difficult, followed by a recovery period in which you resume talking. All participants can work at their own rate as the intensity is guided by the inability to carry on a conversation.Interval training is a type of workout in which you will alternate bouts of higher-intensity work with lower intensity work or recovery periods. This type of workout will help you burn calories as well as improve your cardiovascular system. Interval training is recommended by doctors for a more effective workout and can increase aerobic capacity. TRX Training (2 sessions offered) First Session: 6 Wednesdays, February 10 – March 16, 2016 Noon – 1pm in PE SB16 Second Session: 6 Mondays, March 21 – April 25, 2016 Noon – 1pm in PE SB16 Instructor Debbie Paul Used by individuals of all fitness levels, including novice exercisers to elite athletes, this unique type of training incorporates using only your body weight against TRX suspension straps or the TRX Rip trainer. Over this six week course, you will be introduced to basic and advanced techniques using TRX Suspension and Rip training devices, providing you with a fun and flexible way to enhance your fitness. No prior experience required! No Weight Gain Winter with Karen Stanfar 4 Mondays, February 22 – March 14, Noon - 1pm in JH 191 (includes a healthy lunch) Stop the weight gain! No Weight Gain Winter will present low calorie dishes and meals that won’t expand your waistline. How to Talk With Your Kids so They’ll Talk to You with Susan Fee 4 Thursdays, March 3 – 24, 2016, Noon – 1pm in JH 191 (includes a healthy lunch) Do your child’s conversations with you consist of, “Nothing,” “I don’t know,” and “What attitude?” If so, it’s time to learn some communication techniques to help you connect with your child at any age. Learn when to speak, when to be silent, and what to say during tough times. Mind and Movement: Floor Barre with Bebe Katz 6 Tuesdays, March 22 – April 26, 2016, Noon - 1pm in Woodling Gym Floor Barre is a unique combination of a ballet barre and a floor exercise class. In this class we build muscle endurance, strength and flexibility safely through the elimination of bad posture and alignment habits. We will turn inward to focus on our bones, muscles, tendons, ligaments, posture, alignment and range of motion. Flexibility, endurance and muscular strength will be increased based on the individuals need and physical baseline while making our everyday motion easier, improving posture and potentially reducing lower back fatigue. Finding Your Zen While Seated: Chair Yoga with Kris Fondran 6 Wednesdays, March 23 - April 27, 2016 Noon – 1pm in PE SB16 This is the perfect introductory yoga class for those who would like ways to incorporate yoga into their busy day while seated at a desk, or for those who may have difficulty getting down on to the floor for a traditional yoga class. A variety of postures and movements to improve flexibility of the muscles and joints of the body as well as breath and guided meditation exercises will be introduced. Students will enjoy the many benefits of yoga such as improved mobility, breath capacity and full body relaxation while seated in a chair. Maintaining a Positive Focus: Dealing with Workplace Negativity with Susan Fee 4 Thursdays, April 7, 21, 28, May 5, 2016, Noon – 1pm in JH 191 (includes a healthy lunch) When negativity creeps into you or your workplace it can leave you feeling resentful, emotionally drained, and using “victim-thinking.” While difficult situations are a reality, how you respond is a choice. In this workshop learn how to challenge negative perceptions, cultivate strengths, and promote personal resiliency. Myers Briggs: Discover How Personality Types Impact Job Satisfaction with Andrea Peck 4 Mondays, April 4 – 25, 2016, Noon - 1pm in JH 191 (includes a healthy lunch) The question shouldn’t be “what’s your type?”, but rather, “what type are you?” Knowing and understanding your Myers Briggs type is instrumental in the workplace whether your goal is to successfully manage or motivate others, or to learn how to capitalize on your own strengths and talents. Learn what Myers Briggs does, recognize why it is such a highly regarded assessment tool, and recognize why helping others discover their strengths and preferences can create a more satisfying and productive work environment. Pre-Summer Dance Fitness with Lynn Deering 6 Mondays/Wednesdays, May 2 – 18, 2016, Noon - 1pm in PE SB16 Dance movement, steps, aerobics and techniques to improve cardio, strength, flexibility and postural support. Join Lynn Deering in a fun, engaging environment to help relieve some of that pre-summer/end-of-term stress!
