“Minors” for Connell School of Nursing students
Students in the Connell School of Nursing may minor in another subject by completing the
requirements outlined in the University Catalog. Adding a minor may be done by completing a
form available in the office of the undergraduate Associate Dean. The permission of the
department (usually in Arts & Sciences or Education) is required. Most Arts and Sciences and
School of Education minors require 18 credits of coursework.
Special minors for CSON students may be added to your program of study by meeting with the
undergraduate Associate Dean. Options include:
1. CSON Hispanic Studies minor: may be earned by completing any six 3-credit courses (18
credits beginning with the class of 2014) in Spanish or Hispanic Studies approved by the
undergraduate Associate Dean. These may include courses taken in the language of
Spanish while studying abroad, or Community Health Nursing Clinical taken in
Nicaragua.
2. CSON Psychology minor: the minor would be awarded to CSON students who complete
six 3-credit courses (18 credits beginning with the Class of 2014) in psychology. Courses
should include PS 110 (Introduction to Psychology as a Natural Science) and PS111
(Introduction to Psychology as a Social Science). Students who received AP credit for
PS110 and PS111 may select alternate courses. Courses that may be applied to the minor
include the following (or others approved by the undergraduate associate dean):
PS100: Introductory Psychology (Evening College; no credit for PS100 if PS111
was taken)
PS011: Psychobiology of Mental Disorders
PS032: Emotion
PS260: Developmental Psychology
PS272: Cognitive Psychology
PS241: Social Psychology
PS274: Perception
PS287: Learning and Motivation
PS353: Culture and Emotions
PY030: Child Growth and Development
PY032: Psychology of Learning
PY041: Adolescent Psychology
PY230 or PS246: Abnormal Psychology
PY 242 or PS242: Personality Theories: Behavior in Context
PY 243: Counseling Theories
PY244: Adult Psychology
NU315: Victimology
NU317: Forensic Mental Health
NU318: Forensic Science
