Prepared by Stanley D. Miles
Extension Economist, Oregon State University
The following pages contain estimates of agricultural production and value of
farm and ranch sales for 1993. These are preliminary or first estimates and will be
revised and updated as additional information is received. The estimates are made by
Oregon State University Extension Service personnel. County Extension agents develop estimates of acreage, yields, prices, number of cattle, sheep, hogs, and poultry.
After all the county reports are completed, state totals are tabulated by Oregon State
University Extension economists.
"Other farm income," particularly farm forestry or small woodlot products is
included in these agricultural estimates. Farm forestry has grown over time and is
quite significant now at $414 million (see page 8). Caution should be used in comparing these agricultural estimates with forestry numbers as the farm forestry sales may
be double counted.
This summary report provides a quick overview of Oregon agriculture for this
past year. Oregon agricultural production information is requested by individuals,
state and federal agencies, fertilizer and chemical companies, machinery companies,
university specialists and administrators, students, consulting companies, news media,
and other agribusiness firms.
The Extension Service maintains detailed information on Oregon and United
States agriculture and publishes other reports. Each year we publish more than 40
Commodity Data Sheets on the major agricultural commodities produced in Oregon.
These contain a county breakdown of production, data on other Northwest states or
states that are important to the particular commodity and total figures for the United
States. These sheets contain data for the last 3 to 5 years.
Commodity data sheets are published in the following groupings: grains, hay,
forage, field crops, tree fruits and nuts, small fruits and berries, vegetables and truck
crops, specialty products, and livestock and poultry. If you want to subscribe to these
reports please write to:
