SUMMER 2011 EDITION
Betty Gorham retired on July 1, 2011
after dedicating 33 years to credit unions. She
became the manager of the University of South
Alabama Federal Credit Union in 1991 with
thirteen years of prior credit union experience.
When she began with USAFCU, the credit
union was located in a log cabin on Old Shell
Road with assets of 3.5 million. Credit Union
services consisted of share accounts, share drafts,
and loans. Due to Betty’s management skills and
member service attitude, the credit union is now
over 29 million in assets with almost 9,000
members. Credit union services have expanded
to include, VISA credit cards, ATM/Debit cards,
Online Banking, e-statements, and the Tuition
Payment Plan. The credit union has migrated
from the log cabin to a 3,700 square foot
building with drive-up teller window on Hillcrest
Road. The credit union’s board of directors and
employees sincerely appreciate all of the many
years of hard work and dedication Betty has
given the credit union and its members. We
sincerely wish her the best on her retirement.
We’ll miss you Betty!
EQUAL HOUSING
LENDER
Thank you all for this wonderful experience.
I would like to thank the USAFCU Board of
Directors for their unwavering support
throughout my credit union career. I also want
to thank my staff for their dedication and
teamwork toward the goal of providing services
to our members.
This is not “goodbye” but rather “until we
meet again.”
Regards,
Betty H. Gorham
ICE Your Cell Phone
Add ICE (In Case of Emergency) to your cell phone’s
address book. ICE includes the phone number and
name of a key contact or next of kin. When you
program ICE in your cell phone under the phone’s
address book, it lets medical personnel know who
to contact if you become incapacitated. Also
remember if you “lock” your phone, the medical
personnel will not be able to use it. Paramedics
suggest using “ICE-Wife” or “ICE-Dad” if more than
one contact is to be designated.

Online Scam Artists
If you have e-mail, chances are you’ve received an
“urgent” message about a PayPal account, credit
card account or account at the credit union or
another financial institution. Don’t be fooled.
Phishers, online scam artists, are becoming
increasingly sophisticated and you may be tempted
to respond because the inquiry appears to be
legitimate. Of course, it is a trick to get you to
disclose your account information by clicking on a
link that actually connects to a bogus Web site,
where the data you enter is stolen.
Never respond to these messages, no matter how
“urgent” or “important” they claim to be. Neither
your credit union, nor any legitimate business, will
ever ask for personal information or a password in
an e-mail message. If you are solicited by someone
pretending to be from the credit union, contact us
immediately. For more information about phishing,
visit www.antiphishing.org, where you can view
sample attacks in the phishing archive and report
phishing e-mails you’ve received.
