Dartmoor prison mutiny on 24 January
1932. Details of legal proceedings
against thirty two convicts for their part
in the mutiny. Includes detailed
newspaper reports of the proceedings,
together with information on the
sentences passed, which were mostly
additional terms of imprisonment. The
'ringleaders' were transferred to
Parkhurst, and those acquitted were
transferred to various prisons far away
from their homes.
Also includes parliamentary questions
requesting that review of the prison
sentences which had been awarded ,
on the grounds that they unnecessarily
harsh, and photographs of the prison
after the mutiny.

prison involving approximately one
hundred and fifty prisoners, during
which the administrative block was
destroyed by fire.
Includes an official report on the mutiny,
extensive newspaper coverage,

officers and convicts to the enquiry
chaired by Mr Herbert du Parcq KC and
details of services rendered by St
John's ambulance staff to prison
officers and inmates who were injured.
Also included is a report of a telephone
conversation with the Governor on the
night before the mutiny occurred.
