(Catalogue reference: E36/214 folio 109) 'John Blanke, the blacke trumpeter' is recorded on several occasions in the accounts of the Treasurer of the Chamber records. John Blanke was a black trumpeter, who played regularly at the courts of Henry VII and Henry VIII.
