About this document
This document is an extract from an Exchequer roll of the Treasury of Receipt showing the first
payment to John Blanke, dated 7 December 1507. (Catalogue reference: E36/214 folio 109)
'John Blanke, the blacke trumpeter' is recorded on several occasions in the accounts of the
Treasurer of the Chamber records. John Blanke was a black trumpeter, who played regularly at the
courts of Henry VII and Henry VIII.
