The University of South Alabama
Statistical Profiles
2007 – 2008
Introduction
The University of South Alabama Statistical Profiles, 2007-2008 is the twenty-ninth publication
in a series which began with the USA Fact book for 1979-80. Production of the annual fact book
has been an evolving process as data series are expanded, new topics added, and graphic
presentations refined. We hope that the publication has grown to meet the needs of the
University community for information to support program planning and evaluation. We welcome
all comments or suggestions for continuing to improve the publication.

Data were obtained from BANNER report ZSGR0086, Grade Distribution Analysis. The number of grades issued in all undergraduate courses is based on computational letter grades assigned plus
course withdrawals (WDs). “S” and “U” grades are not included. Grade point averages are calculated on the basis of letter grades, “A” through “F”. Lower division includes course numbers 000-299
and upper division includes courses numbered 300-499.

Data were derived from the following sources: HEGIS/IPEDS reports of salaries, tenure and fringe beneits for 1982-83; for
1983-2003, HRS/PAY 9104 Faculty Salary Analysis reports were used; for 2004-2005 and 2005-2006, data were obtained from
Academic Affairs and Payroll Records. Beginning in 2006-07, salary data were extracted from BANNER using report, ZPGR0091.
Salaries are effective as of October 1 for the respective year. Since 2001-02, stipends for faculty who have administrative,
managerial or other responsibilities are not included in the salary calculations. Twelve-month salaries have been converted to
a nine-month salary equivalent using a conversion factor of 0.8181.
2
This analysis does not include salary information on the following groups: deans and administrators holding faculty rank, College
of Medicine faculty, Mitchell Cancer Institute faculty and Library faculty.
3
"All Ranks" column includes lecturers' salaries.
