BROWSER PERMISSIONS FOR ACCESSING HTTP RESOURCES
IN USAONLINE
Updated 04/03/15
As a security precaution, most browsers will block links and embedded pages that have an http
prefix. In these cases, users must select an option within the browser to allow access to these
resources. This how-to guide will demonstrate how to do that in Google Chrome, Mozilla
Firefox, and Internet Explorer.
NOTE: This action is not necessary 1) when the resource is featured on pages that have an
https prefix (Files uploaded to Resources or the Media Gallery tool in USAonline have an
https prefix), 2) when the link with an http prefix is targeted to open in a new window.
Browser Permissions in Google Chrome
1. Click the resource that has an http prefix.

2. If you are using Google Chrome, you will see a blank page, and a shield icon on the top RIGHT
in the address bar.

3. If you are sure that this is a safe website and want to access it, click the shield icon, and then
click the Load unsafe scripts link.

4. You may need to click the resource again to access the content. You will notice that it is
opened in the same window within USAonline.

Browser Permissions in Mozilla Firefox
1. If you are using Mozilla Firefox, after you click the resource, a similar shield icon will appear
on the top LEFT in the address bar.

2. Click that shield icon, click Options, and then click Disable protection for now. Again, you
may need to click the resource one more time to access the content.

Browser Permissions in Internet Explorer
If you are using Internet Explorer, after you click the resource, the alert message will appear at
the bottom of the page. Click Show all content. Again, you may need to click the resource one
more time to access the content.

NOTE: The alert message in the Internet Explorer will be there just for a few seconds, if you
missed it, you will need to log out and log in again to get it.
A tutorial video about this is also available. For more information, please go to our website
