Course Description Piano Ensemble is a class designed for piano majors, consisting of the study and performance of two-­‐piano and piano-­‐ensemble literature. Course Objectives Learn two-­‐piano/piano duet repertoire Develop ensemble skills and technique Prepare for public performance Course Outline Performance at USA Piano Ensemble Spring Concert on Thursday, March 24, 2015 at 7:30pm is mandatory. Each student will be assigned to perform at least one ensemble piece as well as a portion of the slow movement of a Mozart piano concerto. Depending on the number of groups enrolled, coaching may have to occur at a different time than designated ensemble time (Monday 4-­‐5pm). Each group will discuss their weekly coaching time with the instructor at the first meeting. Each group is required to meet at least once a week on its own outside of the coaching time to rehearse. Course Materials Music/printouts/links to online resources will be provided by the instructor. Class Attendance and Grading Policy I. Attendance, preparation and progress are assessed at each class (scale 0 – 10). 10 points x 9 classes = 90 points II. Performance at USA Piano Ensemble Fall Concert is required. Criteria for assessment (scale 0-­‐80): Preparedness, performance quality, professionalism, ensemble quality, and stage presence. Up to 90 points Final Grade (I+II) A: 162-­‐ 180 B: 144-­‐161 C: 126 -­‐143 D: 108-­‐125 F: 0-­‐107 Changes in Course Requirements Not all classes progress at the same rate thus course requirements might have to be modified as circumstances dictate. You will be given written notice if the course requirements need to be changed. Any dishonesty related to academic work or records constitutes academic misconduct including, but not limited to, activities such as giving or receiving unauthorized aid in tests and examinations, improperly obtaining a copy of an examination, plagiarism, misrepresentation of information, altering transcripts or university records. Academic misconduct is incompatible with the standards of the academic community. Such acts are viewed as moral and intellectual offenses and are subject to investigation and disciplinary action through appropriate University procedures. Penalties may range from the loss of credit for a particular assignment to dismissal from the University.
