Aishwarya Prakash at the Mitchell Cancer Institute (MCI) part of the University of South
Alabama in Mobile, AL, USA.
The laboratory is interested in studying complexes involved in the repair of mitochondrial DNA
via the base excision repair pathway. More specifically, the lab is involved in studying the role of
DNA glycosylases in the repair of the mitochondrial genome. The laboratory uses multiple
molecular, cellular, and biochemical approaches some of which include basic tissue culture,
siRNA knockdown and measurement of metabolic function, in vitro binding, activity, and repair
assays, X- ray crystallography, and SAXS.
Seeking a highly motivated individual to join an upcoming research team. The candidate will
carry forth two or three research projects and be a part of a close- knit, collaborative environment
at the Mitchell Cancer Institute.
Specific qualifications include:
- Ph.D. degree in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, cancer biology or
related field - The project will require experience with standard molecular techniques such as PCR,
cloning, immunoblotting, tissue culture techniques, cell line maintenance and cultivation,
transfection, protein expression and knock down - Verbal and written communication skills in English is necessary - Good laboratory documentation practices are a must Applications will be reviewed
until the position is filled. Interested applicants should send a curriculum vitae, and three
