UNDERGRADUATE CERTIFICATION
I must notify the Office of Veteran Affairs PRIOR to each semester in writing. I will complete a "Veteran
Request for Certification" (VRC) form. I will have it signed by my academic advisor and return it to this office before I will be certified by the Department of Veteran Affairs. Failure to do so could result in my schedule being voided due to non-payment of my tuition and fees.
GRADUATE CERTIFICATION
I must submit a degree requirement checklist or course plan before requesting certification. I must also notify the Veteran Affairs Office prior to each semester to ensure my certification.
POST 9/11 RECIPIENTS
My Post 9/11 deferments will not become activated until the Office of Student Accounting has been informed of my certification through the VA. I will register and notify this office A.S.A.P. to prevent being voided due to non-payment.
I understand that my schedule is subject to be voided for non-payment of 15% of tuition and fees due, has not been received by the Office of Student Accounting by the posted deadlines. I acknowledge that certification can take several days to process.
I acknowledge that I am responsible for the remaining balance after the Post 9/11 funds are credited to my account.
PROCESSING
Once all paper work has been submitted to VA, it can take 90 working days or more for you to receive your first check. For those veterans under Chapters 30, 1606, or REAP your checks will be issued once you self-verify through WAVE or by calling 1-877-823-2378. All education benefits are due to me at the end of each month of school attendance. Changes in enrollment will further delay your payment. VA allows this office 30 days for timely submission of paperwork.
NOTIFICATION OF ANY CHANGES
If I change my address, telephone number, major, National Guard/Reserve unit, hours enrolled , marital status, last name, etc., I will notify this VA Office immediately to prevent my benefits from being disrupted. For Post
9/11, I will report any change in schedule, even before the beginning of the term.
My failure to inform this office of any change will result in a DNN (Did Not Notify), receiving a DNN could result in delay of certification for future terms.
GRADES
VA will not pay benefits for any repeated courses in which the student received a passing grade ("A", "B", "C",
"D"). Students may repeat a course in which they previously received an "F", "U", or "WD" or if I received a "D" in a course requiring a "C" to graduate. Audit courses (AU) are not considered for benefit eligibility. VA expects all students to attend classes. If I stop attending a class and receive an "F*" as a final grade, VA will terminate my benefits for that class on the date reported by my professor.
This will result in an overpayment.
The Department of Veteran Affairs DOES NOT recognize Academic Bankruptcy.
I have been briefed on my benefits and understand my responsibilities.
The University of South Alabama does not defer payment of tuition and fees. All balances due at or before the beginning of the term are the student's responsibility.
Post 9/11 may be the exception.
