Office of University Relations Home Graduate Assistant for Community Outreach / Student Recruitment Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Community Outreach / Student Recruitment Reports to: Beth Bruns, Marketing Specialist Terms of Employment: For the fall semester: 20 hours per week, beginning August 22, 2016 and ending December 16, 2016. Does not include the week of Thanksgiving Break. For the spring semester: 20 hours per week, beginning January 9, 2017 and ending May 5, 2017. Does not include the week of Spring Break. Compensation: Full assistantship salary is $5,000 per semester. Salary is prorated on a weekly basis for late start. Graduate Assistants may qualify for in-state tuition and fees. Graduate Assistants receive University holidays and do not work during Thanksgiving Break, Spring Break, or the interims between semesters. For more information on the Graduate Assistantship System and procedures: http://www.grad.uni.edu/assistantships/ Position Description: Mascot Program Assistant Oversees Mascot programming Develops a marketing plan for mascot for paid events Assists in planning all Mascot program retreats Assists in organizing mascot records (i.e. Insurance forms, health/physical forms/ emergency contact forms, drivers authorizations, camp and Nationals paperwork) Prepares travel reports and authorization forms Oversees student management of Mascot program in the following capacities: i. Planning and organizing all of the mascot’s personal appearances (both athletic and external) ii. Maintaining mascot budget, invoices and appearance fees iii. Management of all of Mascot program’s social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Website, blogs & photos) iv. Responding to all of the mascot’s correspondence v. Attending all appearances vi. Maintaining mascot uniform cleaning and up keep vii. Assisting with all prep and post prep of TC/TK maintenance viii. Planning and implementing yearly “Breakfast with TC/TK” event on and off campus Participates in University Relations creative team meetings, as appropriate Student Recruitment Assistant Assists in recruitment project (i.e. market research, focus group testing, etc.) as assigned Coordinates communication needs between recruitment clients and University Relations creative services staff on outreach projects as assigned Assists with gathering data for outreach and recruitment reports and project supports as assigned Qualifications: Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI graduate program Must be enrolled in nine graduate credits each semester of assistantship. Maintain a Plan GPA of at least 3.00. First semester graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.00. B.A. degree in public relations, marketing or communications is preferred Candidate must be a self-starter, organized, strong communicator and demonstrated leadership skills; must have experience working independently and in a team-oriented, face-paced environment Strong computer skills in Word and Excel. Adobe Creative Suite experience is preferred along with social media marketing experience. Must have a valid Iowa driver’s license.
