STARTING DATE: Immediate Upon Hire Applications can be obtained on the following websites: http://www.oshr.nc.gov/jobs/general.htm, or in hard copy from Scotland County Department of Social Services RESPONSIBILITIES; Supervisory/Managerial functions include program planning, budgeting, personnel functions, establishing priorities, and consultation to social work staff in the Children’s Services Unit. Program areas include Child Protective Services, Foster Care, Adoption, and Preventive Services. Employee assigns cases to subordinates, coordinate work flow operations, and supervise staff through case review and consultation which requires the provision of substantial and recurring technical direction. Employee is responsible for staff training, resolving problems and ensuring that quality services are provided. Employee may provide input to higher level management on administrative, personnel, and budget issues. Access to an automobile for in and out of county travel is required, as the worker is required to visit homes of service recipients and visits to other service providers. Unit staff rotates on-call coverage and carries a beeper, making a Children's Services worker available 24 hours per day. The person in this position must be able to respond to the beeper and when necessary appear on site within 30 minutes. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: - Knowledge of methods and principles of casework supervision and training. Considerable knowledge of social work principles, techniques and practices and their application to specific casework and community problems. Considerable knowledge of behavioral and socioeconomic problems and their treatment and governmental and private organizations and community resources. Considerable knowledge of the laws, regulations and policies which govern social work programs. Ability to supervise, train, or orient lowerlevel social workers, students, interns, or other staff. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely and to plan and execute work effectively. Bilingual preferred. MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Master's degree from an accredited school of social work and two years of social work or counseling experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited school of social work and three years of social work or counseling experience; or a master's degree in a counseling field and three years of social work or counseling experience; or four-year degree in a human services field or related curriculum including at least 15 semester hours in courses related to social work or counseling and four years of social work or counseling; or graduation from a four-year college or university and five years of experience in rehabilitation counseling, pastoral counseling, or a related human services field providing experience in the techniques of casework, group work, or community organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
