Call For Contribution
The Second International Retreat on Vortex Dynamics and Vorticity Aerodynamics is the outgrowth of five
previous retreats held in China, four of which were for Chinese scientists and graduate students only. The
2ND INTERNATIONAL RETREAT
2013 Retreat will be held in Shanghai, China, in August of 2013 and hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong

VORTICITY AERODYNAMICS University. The Retreat will bring together, from various points of the world, invited scholars and teachers

of vortex dynamics and vorticity aerodynamics for intensive discussions of this subject.
The 2013 Retreat, like the First International Vorticity Aerodynamics Retreat held in Beijing in 2009, will
provide the international community in vortex dynamics and vorticity aerodynamics a forum for dialogue
and personal interaction. Speakers are encouraged to discuss, in addition to research accomplishments,
topics normally excluded from formal technical presentations: open issues and challenges deserving further
research effort, promising applications of vorticity aerodynamics, pitfalls to avoid, etc.
The Retreat will feature keynote lectures, regular lectures, and poster presentations. To facilitate the sharing
of ideas, the formal presentations will be allocated approximately one half of the time of each technical
session. The remaining time will be for audience participation: questions, and brief remarks from the
audience. In additional to technical sessions, evening programs and post-retreat excursions will provide
opportunities for participants to exchange thoughts in less formal surroundings.
The organization committee of the 2013 Retreat believes that an enhanced understanding of aerodynamic
principles of animal flight and swim is important to the design of future aircraft and marine vehicles, and the
best avenue into this understanding is through vortex dynamics and vorticity aerodynamics. It hopes that
the Retreat will enrich the research experience of its participants and invites your contribution.
