Dear Mr. Irland:
This is to acknowledge receipt of your mother's collection of music materials that you donated to the Music Library, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, on November 9, 1990. Thank you for delivering the collection directly to the library.
We are grateful for this gift of 629 items. Your mother assembled a fine collection of materials. As you know, the collection is particularly rich in vocal music, with a large portion of the music corning from the period before World War II. Since many titles were published in Denmark and Sweden, these vocal pieces will be of particular interest to the singers who use the resources of the library. I plan to•write up a brief press release on the collection, so that others interested in locating this music around the country will be aware of this collection. If it is not too much trouble, could you provide a brief biographical paragraph on you mother?
I know she was an alum of the University of Illinois and was active in several music groups in the Chicago area, including the chorus of the
Chicago Symphony, but that's all I have noted thus far. I am enclosing a list that summarizes the total gift.
Although we cannot be quoted as the official source for estimating the value of this gift, we have·estirnated that the total gift has a fair market value of $1,161.00.
Thank you very much for helping enrich our resources.
