ADVENT MOVIE NIGHT
ADVENT PRESENTATION BY
MARSHA MIRKIN
To kick off our Advent journey, the Spiritual
Life Commission will present a showing of the
2010 film "The Way" (with Martin Sheen and
Emilio Estevez, 121 min.) about one man's
journey down the Spanish pilgrimage route "El
camino de Santiago." We will begin with a bite
to eat in the Friary Room at 5:30 PM on
Saturday, December 1, and then proceed to
watch the film, ending with dessert and a shared
reflection and discussion. Questions? Email
Jonathan Stott at <jstottsj@gmail.com>.
On December 15th from 10-noon in the lower
church Friary Room, Marsha Mirkin will weave
texts from the Hebrew Testament into the theme
"Can We Experience Salvation in our Lives?"
Using song, dance and the study of scripture,
we will explore this topic together. If you add
this time for quiet discovery to your Christmas

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING TO ENHANCE YOUR ADVENT
On December 16th at 11:15 in the Parish Center living room, there will be a discussion of the book The
Glorious Impossible by Madeleine L'Engle. According to reviewer Shirley Wilton, "Inspired Christian
belief and high Christian art resonate in this beautiful volume as L'Engle retells twenty-five of the events
of Jesus' life and ministry. The tone of the retelling is full of joy; the drama is explained as the 'Glorious
Impossible' that faith accepts and knows as truth. Giotto's frescoes are reproduced with clarity and
richness of color. The text and the pictures fit so well together that L'Engle's words enhance the
appreciation of Giotto's art, and the magnificence of the frescoes illuminates the Christian story." Please
join us on December 16th and share your reactions to these stories of Jesus' life.
