ONE BOOK, ONE PARISH
Many of us in the parish were so moved by Pope Francis' Joy of the Gospel that the Pastoral
Council decided it would like to invite the whole parish to read it together over the next five
months. The second Sunday of each month, from December through April, will be Joy of the
Gospel Sunday. You can purchase copies of The Joy of the Gospel from
http://www.usccb.org or from Amazon. You can also download a free copy from the Vatican
website, http://w2.vatican.va/content/francesco/en/apost_exhortations/documents/papafrancesco_esortazione-ap_20131124_evangelii-gaudium.html. We also have created a page on
Facebook where you can add comments about the document as we read it together. Here is the
link: https://www.facebook.com/StIggysBC.
To help you pray and reflect with The Joy of the Gospel, we will be providing discussion
questions in the bulletin over the next five months. This week, we invite you to begin your
reading with these questions: In December we will be reading the Introduction and Chapter 1.
There will be a variety of opportunities for you to share your thoughts with other parishioners.
These will be outlined in the coming weeks.
1. How often do I experience the joy of the Gospel? How can a desire to protect my personal interests,
concerns, and possessions inhibit this joy?
2. What is my most recent encounter with God’s love? How does it give meaning to my life?
3. Pope Francis says the task of evangelization is “the source of authentic personal fulfillment.” Is that
how you view evangelization? Why or why not?
4. Can you recall a time when you accomplished something wonderful, only to realize that God was at
work and he enabled your success? How often do you tackle a difficult task, knowing that God will be at
your side to help you succeed?
5. How can I help my parish reach out to those who have not found faith in Jesus? Can I recount any
recent success in bringing someone outside the faith to St. Ignatius?
1.
The Mass on Thanksgiving Day will be at 10:00.
The Church will close after this Mass.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING

ADVENT PROGRAM WITH MARSHA MIRKIN
Once again, on December 13 , from 10am-noon Marsha Mirkin will be at St. Ignatius to lead a
th
Bible Discussion. We will be studying the story of the prophet Elisha and the Shunammite woman, a
woman who knew how to allow the sacred into her life. We will see the transformation of a prophet who
learned that part of being God’s messenger was to care deeply for humankind. Through the story we will
face questions. How do we prepare ourselves to encounter what we understand as holy? How do we
welcome salvation, develop hope and a sense of possibility?
Marsha Mirkin, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and author who teaches psychological
interpretation and the contemporary relevance of the Bible. Dr. Mirkin has held appointments at Harvard
Medical School, and Boston University School of Medicine. She has been a resident scholar at Brandeis
University Women’s Studies Research Center.
In addition, Dr. Mirkin has been on the faculty at
Wellesley College and is currently at Lasell College.
Please mark your calendar and plan to attend this session on December 13th, 10:00-12:00, on the
Garden Level of the Parish Offices.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
Shattuck Holiday Meal: Sign-ups for the December 6th Meal are in process;
materials can be found on the Outreach table. If you will be away for
Thanksgiving weekend, this will be your last opportunity to sign-on for the Meal
by donating food, your time (kitchen prep help or serving) or monetarily.
Christmas Gift Drive: The Gift Drive continues, as well. Again, if you’ll be away
next weekend, this will be your final opportunity to select your ornaments. Gifts
should be returned on the weekend of December 6th/7th.
Shattuck Fourth Tuesday: We will be serving dinner to the Shattuck Shelter
Guests this coming Tuesday. Perhaps you could bake a bit extra when you’re
doing your Thanksgiving baking and donate it for the November 25th dinner? Desserts
need to be at the Parish Office by 4PM on the 25th, but you may bring your
donation earlier and leave it inside the front door of the Parish Office building.
Thank you to the bakers and servers that have enabled us to continue our longrunning ministry to the Shelter Guests.
THANKSGIVING DAY COLLECTION: Our Thanksgiving Day collection will
be forwarded to St. Anne’s Parish in Kingston, Jamaica, to be used for the
needs of the parish.
DO YOU SPEAK ENGLISH? ¿HABLA ESPAÑOL?
The parish is presently organizing a program for Conversation Partners for anyone who would like to
help members of our Latino community improve their English. If you have some free time once a week to
meet with a native Spanish speaker, please let Fr. Bob know. Or if you would like to learn Spanish in the
process that would be possible too.
ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT
Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is held on Friday beginning at 12:45 pm. The Chaplet of Divine
Mercy is prayed at 3:00 pm. All are invited to join in this time of prayer and reflection.

Padre Bob
