Schwartz, Jeffrey L.,‐Instructor in Electrical and Computer Engineering Handouts included previous minutes and an agenda of committee on the gallery and performing arts from Sept. 2009, a letter addressed to each faculty member from previous committee that providing examples of instituting cultural resources to supplement curriculum and a guide for committee on gallery and performing arts members (committee currently called Committee on Each committee member needs to review handouts, reflect on previous progress and begin to think in innovative ways to carry out the mission of cultural and archival resources as a pedagogy resource within the curriculum and in the classroom. Begin to identify with strategies to communicate to other faculty members to utilize cultural resources. Miscellaneous Business Topics Discussion Decision Cultural and Archival Resources. Innovative ways the English department is utilizing cultural resources on campus. Innovative ways the holocaust center is being infused with other departments. How is the information of utilizing the cultural resources(QPAC, QCC Art Gallery and the Kupferberg Holocaust Center) being disseminated to the faculty so they can implement into their department and their courses? Rosemary discussed that Susan Madera and Zivah Perel discussed with Dr. Gillespie, chair of English department re: incorporating cultural resources into EN 101 and EN 102. This strategy allowed exposure to all students since this is a prerequisite to all majors. Discussion ensued with Julia Carroll re: is it formally placed within the English dept.’s curriculum. Dr. Flug and Lorry Cupelli discussed that the nursing dept conducted interviews to increase cultural competency and varied health and end of life issues, criminal justice utilization with concepts of criminal law and the music program at Julliard reviewing popular music during the Holocaust period and the story it tells. Sociology dept is studying the topic surrounding the publication, Goose Stepping in Long Island. The business department looking at trade activities surrounding the holocaust periods and a reflection on business ethics. Dr. Flug also discusses locating art painted by a holocaust survivor that couldn’t express self succinctly with verbal communication. He depicts each art painting with a story behind each painting. Internships are also a way the holocaust center is being utilized by the students directly. Discussion re: brochure and letter was sent to each faculty member. Other ways that were suggested to effectively communicate to faculty members is to record a video from each department re: describing the assignment, the objectives, how it was demonstrated and the attainment of the objectives including a Rosemary to ascertain if the cultural resources are formally infused in the syllabus. The need to effectively communicate these innovative modalities to the faculty so that utilization of the cultural resources will increase. Holocaust Center’s cultural resource has increased due to: the same concepts with current hate crimes in the media and the community support of the city council and society the increased interest of the students interviewing to be an intern the powerful exhibit of interns’ viewpoints after interviewing an holocaust survivor at the holocaust center several faculty members going back to their prospective department and becoming a spokesman for pedagogy and the holocaust center -“great salespeople of the idea” Rosemary Zin’s objective is to have a representative or spokesperson from several departments or from several departments from the Freshman Academy to actively represent the cultural and archival resources on campus. The role of the spokesperson would be to significantly and effectively communicate to other faculty members re; the successful use of pedagogy and cultural resources as Miscellaneous Business Topics Discussion Decision reflective narrative from the faculty and students. Other suggestions were to communicate from faculty to faculty or from the student who had experienced a pedagogy assignment using cultural resources in attainment of objectives to faculty members. an effective tool to meet course objectives. Rosemary also notes that it has to be from a peer mentoring model otherwise communicating from administration to faculty has proved to be ineffective in the past.
