Queensborough Community College City University of New York CURRICULUM COMMITTEE of the Academic Senate Minutes of the October 2, 2007Meeting Present: Dr. Frank Cotty (chair); Dean Karen Steele (Administrative Liaison); Richard Yuster, P.E.; Dr. S. Karimi; Dr. Nora Tully; Dr. Marjorie Deutsch; Dr. Emily Tai, (secretary) Absent and Excused: Dr. Rosemary Iconis 1. The meeting was called to order at 2.20 P.M. 2. The minutes of the September 4, 2007 meeting were accepted and approved. 3. Dr. Paris Svoronos presented the proposal for the Queensborough/John Jay Dual Degree Dual Degree Program: A.S. in Science for Forensics (QCC) and B.S. in Forensic Science (John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York). This program, which will draw upon the expertise of faculty in the Departments of Chemistry, Biological Sciences and Geology, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, is being designed to allow students to finish their first 60 credits at Queensborough, and then transfer to continue in one of three possible concentrations within John Jay’s B.A. program in Forensic Science. Some discussion occurred involving the only difficulty: incorporating John Jay’s Ethnic Studies requirement into the curriculum given its 60-credit parameters. Dr. Svoronos was thanked for his presentation of the program (see appended table below). 4. Dr. James Valentino then presented proposals for three new courses in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Design Drafting: MT 369, Computer Applications in Engineering Technology; MT 491, currently entitled Computer Integrated Manufacturing; and MT 492, Introduction to Virtual Automation, which will be integrated into Queensborough’s current programs in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Computerized Architectural and Industrial Design. In the program in Computerized Architectural and Industrial Design, MT 369 will replace MT 487, Electro-Mechanical Systems Design. In the Mechanical Engineering Technology, the new MT 369, 491, and 492 will replace the current MT-368, 487, and 566. The three latter courses will be dropped from the department’s offerings. Dr. Valentino was thanked for his presentation, and advised to confer with faculty regarding the currently proposed title for MT491, which is the same as that held by an existing course, MT 164. It was also suggested that the course description for MT 492 be modified to highlight the emphasis upon skills linked to manufacturing quality control. Lecture section 1 outlines for these courses are also pending, and will be submitted to Dean Steele’s office shortly. 5. The proposal for a Queensborough/John Jay Dual Degree Program: A.S. in Science for Forensics (QCC) and B.S. in Forensic Science (John Jay College of Criminal Justice of the City University of New York) was unanimously approved. 6. The meeting was adjourned at 4.10 P.M. Respectfully submitted, Emily S. Tai Secretary of the Curriculum Committee QCC/JJ DUAL DEGREE PROGRAM: A.S. IN SCIENCE FOR FORENSICS (QCC) AND B.S.
