IMPORTANT NOTICES REGARDING REGISTRATION POLICY
Students who register for classes but decide not to attend USA must drop/delete all of their courses using PAWS
before the end of Drop/Add to avoid being assessed nonrefundable University fees. See Registration Dates.
Refund rules and deadlines are officially published information. Students are responsible for knowing these
deadlines. No exceptions will be made.
After semester final grades for the previous term are processed, student registrations will be reviewed for
approaching semesters to determine if prerequisite requirements are still being met. Students who no longer
have the necessary prerequisites for any of their registered courses for upcoming semesters will be removed from
the affected courses unless a prerequisite override has been coded on the student’s PAWS account by a
department or college office. Any student whose registration is adjusted because of a lack of prerequisites will be
alerted to the change via JagMail e-mail.
Students with registration holds will not be able to use PAWS to drop courses. These students must come to the
Registrar’s Office to drop a course. The Registrar’s Office is open Monday-Friday, from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Drop
deadlines and refund rules apply.
Classes are subject to cancellation if sufficient enrollments do not materialize. Class days, times, instructors, and
locations are subject to change. PAWS is updated daily to reflect current schedule changes.

PLACEMENT AND P ROFICIENCY E XAMS
Individual details regarding the math placement and computer proficiency/placement examinations can be found
at:
Math Placement: http://www.southalabama.edu/mathstat/css-placement.shtml
Computer Proficiency/Placement: http://www.cis.usouthal.edu/proficiencyexam
CONDUCTING A COURSE SEARCH
There are two methods to perform a course search on PAWS.
The first method does not require the user to have a Jag Number and the information is
updated on a daily basis:
• Go to the PAWS main menu at http://www.paws.southalabama.edu.
• Click “Class Schedule.”
• Use the “Search by Term’ dropdown menu to select the semester you wish to search and click
‘Submit’. This will open the class schedule search tool.
• You must highlight an academic subject i.e., Mathematics, Sociology, etc.). You can only
search one academic subject at a time.
• Click “Class Search” at the bottom of the page.
The second method requires the student to log in with his/her Jag Number and PAWS PIN
Code:
• Go to the PAWS main menu at http://www.paws.southalabama.edu.
• Click “Enter Secure Area”’ and log into your PAWS account.
• Click “Student Services & Financial Aid.”
• Click “Registration.”
• Click “Look-up Classes to Add.”
• Use the “Search by Term” dropdown men to select the semester you wish to search and click
‘Submit.’ This will open the class schedule search tool.
• You must highlight an academic subject (i.e., Mathematics, Sociology, etc.). You can only
search one academic subject at a time.
• Click “Course Search” at the bottom of the page.
PAWS will display a list of “Sections Found” for that academic subject. The courses for the subject will be
arranged numerically. Click ‘View Sections’ to display sections with the course reference number (CRN),
subject abbreviation, course number, section number, credit hours, course title, meeting days and times,
seating capacities, instructors assigned to the sections, and more.
Clicking a CRN will display detailed information about the section. On the detailed information page, you can
click the course title to see prerequisites and any registration restrictions for the section. Use the browser’s
back button to return to the displayed list.
JagTraks Registration Guide
7
CONDUCTING A COURSE SEARCH
This ‘shopping list’ of course sections can be used to register sections. The checkboxes indicate the sections
are available for registration. A “C” indicates the section is closed (has reached capacity).
The letters “SR” indicates you are not eligible to register. In that case, you would need to refer to the Check
Your Registration Status option under the Registration menu in PAWS to see why you are not eligible to
register.
You can click “New Search” at the bottom of the page to search the schedule again.
Important Notes
Campus: USA courses are taught in several locations across Mobile and Baldwin Counties, and on the
Internet. For scheduling purposes we have two official campus designations: Main campus and the Web
campus. A “main campus” designation is assigned to all course sections that do not meet solely via the
Internet. A “web campus” designation is assigned to all courses that are web-based, that is, conducted
solely via the Internet. So, even if the course meets in Baldwin County or at Brookley Complex, it is
considered “main campus.”
Class Days: PAWS uses a one-letter abbreviation to indicate days of the week that a course section meets.
These are the abbreviations used by PAWS:
M=
T=
W=
R=
F=
S=
U=
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Section Number: This is a three-digit number attached to a subject abbreviation/course number on the
schedule. Section numbers not only distinguish one particular instance of a scheduled course, but also give a
clue as to when and where they meet. The section numbers we currently use are:
101-299 =
301-399 =
401-499 =
501-599 =
601-699 =
701-799 =
801-899 =
901-999 =

USA ONLINE
The University of South Alabama offers fully online courses taught via the Internet, that is, there is no
traditional classroom presence.
Students register for USAonline courses the same way students register for campus-based courses.
Complete registration instructions, policies, and deadlines are available online at
http://www.southalabama.edu/registrar/registration.html. Call the Office of the Registrar at (251) 460-6251,
option 3, between 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, or e-mail registration@southalabama.edu for
assistance.
How to log into USAonline
1. Go to the USAonline home page https://ecampus.southalabama.edu.
2. In the Username field, enter your Jag-number.
3. In the Password field, enter your JagMail e-mail account password.
4. If you do not know or remember your JagMail e-mail account password, go to the following link
http://jagmail.southalabama.edu and click on “Manage Student Account” then click on the “Activate/Reset”
button.
5. Enter the required fields and click on the “Submit” button. Your JagMail user information will be
displayed and you will be allowed to enter a new password and save it.
Please Note:
Online courses require a higher rate of tuition than campus-based courses; however, payment policies,
procedures and deadlines are the same as those for campus-based courses. For complete tuition and fee
information, see the Office of Student Accounting website, http://www.southalabama.edu/studentaccounting.
Tuition and Fee information for USAonline courses can be found on the Office of Student Accounting website at
