Multi Media Project: 60% of the grade
In this course we will learn how to develop a reflective habit of mind by constructing a project that
requires stages of development: Prior Knowledge; Expert Consultation; Revision; Expansion through
Information Seeking; Consultation with Peers; Selection and Storyboarding for Organization; Use of
Technology for Knowledge Production; Presentation to Audience. Each part of the project will require
a five paragraph essay that clarifies the reflective habit that is being used to construct the project during
that stage. Since this is a constructive production, it is vital that each part of the project be completed
on time. No late submissions.
General Education Objective: Description
Describing Prior Personal Knowledge: What has been the most meaningful learning experience or
challenge I have gone through so far in my life?
Week One: Draft: A Transformative Experience: The prompt will include paragraphs about description
of person, place, action, dilemma, resolution, and future plan.
Week Two and Three:
General Education Objective: Transfer Knowledge Reading
Revision: 10% of grade submitted after revision of each paragraph according to strategies developed in
relation to reading expert strategies:
Describing people: “The Mistress of Make Believe”
Describing Place: “They Also Serve who Stand and Wait”
Describing Action: “The Discus Thrower”
Describing Dilemma and Resolution: “Letter to a Child Like Me”
Seeking information:
Week Four: 10% of grade submitted on time. Upload to the Group Wiki and begin Library Research on
your topic. Consult the database for this class on the Library website. Submit resources for a Power
Point that will accompany your essay: Visuals, paintings, cartoons, quotes, statistics, music, You Tube
documentaries. All citation materials must accompany your resources. Copyright information must
accompany your resources.
General Education Objective: Information Literacy
Social Knowledge:
Week Five: 10% when submitted on time. Social Dimension of Knowledge Production: Read over
the essays on our class wiki and provide your partner with a peer resource for their work. What is
another way of viewing the problem solving strategy developed by the writer? Write a paragraph
beginning with a statement that lets your peer partner know that you understood the essay. Next, give
your partner some information that helps the partner see from another perspective. Offer an
imaginative alternative to the resolution. What kind of information do you think can be added to the
peer’s project that will deepen the perspective you have added? Use our Library resources for this
project. Submit to teacher before adding the student wiki.
General Education Objective: Group Work
Interdisciplinary Knowledge Production:
Week Six: 10% when submitted on time. Interdisciplinary Dimension of Knowledge Production: Read
your partner’s essay from the other class to which you are paired. Offer a response that stresses the
way writers create clear problem solving techniques. Respond to the Basic Skills students with a way of
expanding on their concerns. First make sure you communicate that you clearly understand their
concerns. If you are unclear ask them the questions you need to know before you have a rich
description.
General Education Objective: Synthesis
Imposing Order through Selection and Discipline
Week Seven: 10% when submitted on time. Create a Storyboard for Your Project. Analyzing Visual
Knowledge and Media. Using the information given to you by your peers and your own research,
select the five –seven visual or multi-media resources you will use to enhance your project by supplying
other ways of knowing. Make sure that you submit to the teacher a formal analysis of each source of
knowledge chosen. For instance, you will need to do a reading of the visual resources used, the music,
video etc, explaining how the different media offers different kinds of knowledge. Describe the
synthesis created by the visual storyboard and how it relates to the written text.
General Education Objective: Technology and Voice
Technology of Production: The new hand, eye, voice interaction
Week Eight: 5%Attend the Camtasia workshop in ACC. Arrive for the workshop prepared with your
Power Point already created. Work with voice the night before so you will be prepared for this
part of the project. Practice breathing and strong voice.
General Education: Voice
Week Nine: 5% Do a presentation of your project for the class.
