UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH ALABAMA SECONDARY EDUCATION (BS) 1 Secondary Education (BS) Degree Requirements The Department offers degree programs to prepare middle/high school teachers for grades 6-12. Candidates are required to complete a content field major in the College of Arts and Sciences as well as the Secondary Education major. Applicants applying for initial certification will be required to pass the appropriate Praxis II test. Praxis II test requirements are subject to change as dictated by the ALSDE. Must include at least 36 semester hours of English courses (excluding EH 101 and EH 102), with a minimum of 19 semester hours of English coursework at the 300-400 level to include a minimum of three (3) courses at the 400-level -- at least 15 of these upper division hours MUST be taken at USA.
