Queensborough Community College The City University of New York MINUTES of the March 8, 2005 meeting of the Academic Senate President Eduardo J. Martí called the sixth regularly scheduled meeting of the Academic Senate to order at 3:00 p.m. I. Change in Agenda­ Addition of the list of Graduates for Fall 2004 to the Agenda before the reports from the Standing Committees. II. Consideration of minutes of the February 8, 2005 meeting: A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the February 8, 2005 minutes. IV. Communications from: President Marti: President Eduardo J. Marti began the meeting by requesting a revision in the Agenda to include the List of the Fall 2004 Graduates and then referred to his written report. Dr. Marti mentioned the fifteen presentations given by QCC faculty members at the League for Innovations Conference and the support provided by almost eighty volunteers from the Campus. He also singled out for special mention: Stu Asser Anne Marie Menendez Bobbi Brauer Dale Nussbaum Liza Larios and Aaron Krac. Dr. Susan O’Malley: Addressed the Senate on issues affecting CUNY and entertained questions. Senate Steering Committee: Dr. Philip Pecorino, Chairperson of the Academic Senate Steering Committee, referred to his written report. Dr. Pecorino stated that applications are being received for service on Standing Committees of the Academic Senate. Dr. Tom Gerson indicated that faculty should fill out the application for positions on Standing Committees, rather than respond directly to his initial email. Materials should be submitted to Jannette Urciuoli by March 14. While applications have been sent by email, department secretaries have been requested to provide written applications to those faculty members who do not make use of the email system. Dr. Joseph Culkin introduced Kam Tim (Heather) Ou, a new College Lab Technician in the Department of Social Sciences. . UFS Representative: No report as the UFS Plenary was postponed. V. Approval of the List of Graduates for Fall 2004. A motion was made, seconded and approved to accept the list of graduates for Fall 2004. (See Attachment A ­1.) VI . Monthly Reports of Committees: Committee on Bylaws: A motion to create a Standing Committee on WID WAC was tabled. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to create a Standing Committee on Distance Education. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to revise the title, description and charge of the Standing Committee on College Environment. The new title is the Committee on Environment, Quality of Life and Disability Issues. A motion was made, seconded, and approved to create a Standing Committee on Vendor Services. Course Revisions: Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Department A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept the revision to: ET560 Microprocessors and Microcomputers New Courses: English Department A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept new courses: EN­223 Advanced Fiction Writing EN­224, 225 Special Topics in Writing as Art & Craft New Course: Music Department A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept new courses: MU­208 Musicianship I MU­209 Musicianship II New Course: Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Department A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept a new course: ET­509 C++ Programming for Embedded Systems Program Revisions: Music Department A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept program revisions to: A.A.S Degree Program in Music Electronic Technology A.S Degree Program in Fine and Performing Arts – Music Concentration Program Revision: Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology Department A motion was made, seconded, and approved to accept program revision to: A.A.S Degree Program in Electronic Engineering Technology V. Unfinished Business: Dr. Tom Gerson said the Committee on Committees is still receiving responses to its survey on online elections and a report will be made at the next meeting. IX. New Business: Dr. Joseph Nagler announced that the Music Department will be hosting the First Annual Next Generation Music Festival on May 6 and 7. Part of the program will include a Battle of High School Bands which will include cash prizes. If anyone knows of high schools bands, near or far, that may be interested in participating, please direct them to the Music Department. Dr. Tom Gerson invited everyone to the opening on March 29 of an exhibit presented by the Friends of the Library on the History of Computers. Dr. Jay Appleman encouraged all to continue with the phone campaign and announced the upcoming “CUNY Day” on March 23. In addition, the PSC chapter meeting will take place on April 13.
